Hi,

So i have my MID set up to avg my mpg with the trip A meter. Trip A resets when i fill up.

Problem: I have notice multiple times, my trip A computer just resets at random mileage. IS this common?

I made a post about this earlier... Mine always resets when I fill up (as it should), but it also resets if I sit idling for around 5-10 minutes.

I haven't done any experiments to see exactly how long it is and if it's repeatable.

I had a software update done because my tighten fuel cap message kept displaying after filling up. I have not noticed it reset since the update. But I have not had much driving time since the update either.

mine just reset randomly this morning. I notice it does it when i drive the car pretty hard. Maybe the Fuel is sloshing around and hitting the sensor thinking that i'm filling up and resets??

There is setting in the MID to change this. Mine did this when I bought it but I changed the setting so it only manually resets.

ETA: It's a system designed to reset when you refuel but it doesn't work correctly.

Mine randomly resets as well, seems like when it is cold out it does it more. Dealer says they havent herad of that happening and can find no problems.

Resetting is not random - it is user (or dealer) programmed/selected that way

Pg 105 (or so) in your owner's manual:

To cause Trip A and average fuel for
trip A to reset every time you refuel
your vehicle, follow these
instructions:
You can choose this item to
customize from ‘‘METER SETUP’’
by pressing the INFO ( / ) button
repeatedly.

Press the SEL/RESET button to see
the selections.
Select ON or OFF by pressing the
INFO ( / ) button, then enter
your selection by pressing the SEL/
RESET button.

When your selection is successfully
completed, the display changes as
shown above, and then goes back to
the customize item screen,
If the ‘‘SETTING INCOMPLETE’’
message appears, go back to ‘‘TRIP
A RESET WITH REFUEL’’ and
repeat the procedure again.

I don't think you get the point. It IS randomly resettting, but also resets at fill up. Mine does it quite frequently, but I haven't been able to tie it to any specific action, yet.

I thought for a while that it did it by geo location to the place I normally get gas because I stopped at the gas station where I normally fill up just to get something from the store and it reset without getting gas. It did this a couple times, but I've seen it happen elsewhere, also.

Yeah, after re-reading the OP, I guess I did miss the point...

Software glitch? Try: ctrl + alt + delete to reset
(J/K)

I've never observed a random, unprompted reset on my 2012;
It is set up to reset at refill.

yup.. mine seems to do it when I let the car sit for a week in the cold.. then start it up and A = 0. Dealer replaced the battery but it didn't help. PIA indeed.

Yesterday, I was idling for 10-15 minutes in -20C weather with full tank of gas, it didn't reset. Same location about two months ago, idling for 5 minutes in -5C weather with half tank of gas, it reset. I am wondering if it's dependent on gas level as well like LADHAR mentioned.

I've been watching out for this issue on my 2014 and it finally happened to me today (Saturday 8/16/14).

Here are the conditions when it happened:
- At 2524 miles
- Temperature 77 deg F
- Gas tank was slightly less than 1/4 full (fuel gauge was at second white bar above the red bar)
- Was last driven on Wednesday, so it sat for a few days
- Only Trip A computer and Avg MPG was affected. Trip B computer was not affected

The only thing I did, as others have mentioned, was idle for a bit on Wednesday, as I was doing some diagnostics on the NAVI screen.

Did any of you with this issue open a case with Acura Client Services?

If so, please post or PM me with the case number, so I can reference it when I call them.

Someone suggested this was a software issue...I don't think that's correct. If so, one would expect other things to reset as well, like Trip B, for example.

Clearly, the Trip A reset feature relies on some sensor...I've never figured out precisely what it was. Does the fuel tank generate a vacuum during operation? If so, then it seems to me that this would be the easiest thing for the system to monitor, and the reset would happen when the pressure changed (ie, you remove the filler cap). Perhaps it's something else. Either way, it ultimately comes back to a sensor, and I suspect the issue is with the sensor, or with whatever the sensor is meant to read (obvious, I know). But if it was a software glitch, one would expect that everyone experiences it about the same, since pretty much the same software goes in our vehicles.

This happens to me and very often. I had a 2012 for 12k miles that never did it and I just attributed it to me accidentally hitting and holding the button when reversing (I didn't want to believe it was a car issue happening and wanted to blame myself).

dealer has just told me that the battery failed a load test

- so maybe the A trip meter reseting itself is an early indication of battery failure?

I am pretty sure this is the reason mine resets as well. Sometimes when I am switching through the MID menus I unintentionally hold the button for more than a second causing Trip A to reset. Pisses me off each time it happens.

wasn't accidentally resetting it

was about to drop the car off for a B service and the "ck charging system" light came on

- had a marginal battery - replaced
- and had to replace the alternator - (about $621 - extended warranty picked up that and 2 failed hood struts about $119)
