Transmission Performance

Hi everyone,

I have a '10 TL with auto. I was wondering if anyone else feels that the transmission is rather clunky/jerky. When I'm in stop-and-go traffic and accelerating and decelerating between 0 and 10, the car always seems to lurch or jerk. Also, oftentimes when I'm coming out of a turn and go to accelerate, the shifting feels really harsh. Occasionally, the downshift is so pronounced, it feels like the engine has died and I need to jam the accelerator (which of course then leads to whiplash). Finally, as I'm braking, between 40 and 30 there's a very noticeable downshift. I've had similar experiences in another TL ('11), so I'm guessing these characteristics are inherent to the TL (and perhaps most throttle-by-wire cars), but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions (any software upgrades, service adjustments, etc.).

I otherwise like the TL, but am disappointed that my mother's Camry (granted, a 6-speed auto) shifts so much more smoothly.

Thanks!!

Mike

^is the key phrase here. The hotter any tranny is the more clunkin around you'll feel. Honda's tranny's really aren't as good as the competition. IE; Infiniti, Lexus, etc.

Silvermike... I experience identical issues but I have the SH-AWD version.

Does your car also lurch just before coming to a full stop? Followed by a whirling winding-down noise... kinda like a washing machine turning off?

Yes to the lurch. Not so sure about the noise. I usually have the radio up.

I'm not completely 100% this might be the problem. But I get the slouch and jerk from time to time. I put the car on a lift and there's a "minor" leak with the transmission fluid...I need to bring it to the dealer asap.

I have a '10, FWD, base model. I have no complaints at all about the transmission (transaxle). It shifts well, it's relatively smooth. As with the above poster, it's not as good as my wife's 11 year old Camry, but it's fine.

I was going to make the same post from my experience last weekend. I had two epic (Boston to DC then DC to SC) drives in 90+ weather and it was doing the same thing in the heat. Now that I'm back in Boston in cool weather it is fine.
