Torque Converter - Service Bulletin

Hey guys,

I had the service bulletin addressed on my 2012 AWD. They updated the car with the new torque converter programming (whatever you wanna call it), and did a transmission flush. I have been driving the car for just over a week now with the new programming.

Car is much more responsive now, I have better shifts, less lag overall, and in general I am happy, except one thing.

I still find that when I am around 40km/h (25mph) that I get what feels like a "shudder" or "shake" momentarily at around that speed. If I hold out the gear and rev higher rather than being in a higher gear, it is not as noticeable.

My question is, does this sound like it is still the torque converter at fault? Acura said if I want to pursue this as the torque converter they will check it, but if it turns out to not be the torque converter I have to pay a $140 "diagnostic fee"

What do you guys think?

You might want to try one or two doses of XADO AT EX120. It works great on shudders.

My question was more geared towards, should I pursue this as the torque converter and push to have it replaced? I still have another 20k left on the warranty.

Anicra: If you call a dealership and provide your VIN they will tell you if your car has been updated.

Sounds like a good gamble, to me - paying that buck forty, to avoid (hopefully) a costly repair. Let's say you don't, how far is that $140.00 (adjust for Canadian $$'s) going to go, if you need to pay for that TC, after your warranty's up?

By the way, if it's not the TC, what else could it be? "Nothing else," you say? Well then, sounds like a good bet, to me. But, in the end, considering that we don't know everything, it's still a gamble.

Good luck! Keep us informed!

Thanks for the advice. I don't want them to pull out some BS and say its because the car is lowered, or my alignment is off, wheels unbalanced, etc, because it did this before the car was lowered and all the other points have been checked as well. I guess I should gamble the $140.

Thanks!

" I still find that when I am around 40km/h (25mph) that I get what feels like a "shudder" or "shake" momentarily at around that speed."

I had a tech sit in mine and the say that is the TC is engaging.. It happens at around 1100 RPM on my 2009 and at around the same speed. As soon as the RPM jumps past that, it is all good. It is considered normal. Save the $140.

Same here, took to the dealer twice to check it out and they (Acura Tech Line) say TC working under the specs. No issues. Any time I am in traffic and rolling around that RPM I have to push gas to jump above the rpm as you have mentioned. Hoping no permanent failure in near future.

Sucks to know I will have to live with that shudder but hopefully that means it won't fail down the road. Thanks for saving me $140 guys!
