Timing Belt Replacement - 2012 Acura TL
i guys.
Just bought a 2012 TL with just over 100k miles.
I have an appointment scheduled to get the timing belt kit replaced on may 17.
Should I be worried to drive the car until then? Last thing I want is the belt to snap but I will need to use the car almost on a daily basis. I'm more worried about the 12 years of age than the mileage itself.
I live in Canada so the car was likely not driven in extreme weather except for maybe a few days a year.
What would be your recommandation? I am a but anxious.
Thanks!

im taking mine in on the 20th. I am surprised they said it would be done in 1 day. timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and coolant. it would take me a month most likely the way work is going and being tired with not enough time. Im nervous about it. in the 40 years of driving and dozens of cars this is the 1 st trip to a dealer for work done

Dealers do a couple of timing belt replacements a week so you are in good hands. They might try to upsell you on other items. One typical item is engine air filter and cabin air filter for around $125. Your call but maybe check these our before hand because they are about $25 parts and on many cars, 20 minutes work.

its like 6-8 hours book time so a day is plenty

When you do it once, it's like changing the serpentine belt. Taking the crankbolt off would be the hardest task of the job (a heavy duty 19mm socket and good impact will guarantee that removal) followed by finding the right angle to get the timing cover bolts off. You'd have to switch between deep and shallow 1/4" sockets and a flexhead ratchet wrench helps. Also, the side engine mount needs to come off. Everything else is easy. Mark the belt and transfer marks to new belt.

I assume you got it changed out ok. I had my 12 done last year by a mechanic friend at 121k plus new plugs. The old plugs were toast. The new NGK's were like getting a new motor, it is wicked fast again. I gapped mine to .044, when you do plugs if they havent been done, definitely do as they are not pre-gapped and all over the place. And I highly recommend this timing belt kit, my friend had no issues and someone here said the Aisin is the factory kit.

Price from dealer and my mechanic was about the same, $1100-1,200 so went with the mechanic. I offered the AISIN kit above, but he said most of the parts are good, but the tensioner tends to fail prematurely. So went with Honda kit.

I have never heard of any problems with the Aisin tensioner, but I have seen how the Honda water pump started to leak slowly after 6 years.
