Steering wheel discolored

Hi All - I am new to the forum. I bought a 4G TL back in July and have absolutely fallen in love with it.

I've just recently noticed in the past month that my steering wheel seems to be discolored. In direct sunlight the center (airbag cover) looks brown. It should be black obviously.

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this on their car. I keep this car in the garage and only drive it a few times a week. So it's only out in the sun maybe 2-3 days a week.

Before I go to Acura with this, I want to see if it is generally a poorly designed part or if mine seems to be defective.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I bought mine in April (drive it every day, but its garaged at home and in the basement of a parking garage at work) and haven't noticed any discoloration.

If you bought your car in July, it probably sat on the lot for at least 6 months, since 2009 TL production stopped in early 2009. I wonder if that could have had anything to do with it.

Does it look like this picture I stole from Takehold66? If so, its not discolored but they all come this way.

P.S. Sorry Takehold66 to hijack your pic!

no problem chaiwala. It looks totally black outside to the naked eye. I think it just photographs that way. If you take a pic of the inside of your doors with the doors open, you will see color differences in the different panels of the door even though they may look the same in daylight.

Thanks for the replies guys. Mine does look like this picture. In direct sunlight its probably a bit more exaggerated.

I may still try to pursue Acura on it. Maybe they've changed to a different (in my mind better) quality cover.

Problem solved (without eye surgery)

Hi everyone - I've just spoken with Acura and the service manager at my local dealership. They both agree something is wrong with the steering wheel color and are replacing it under warranty. We looked at a couple on the lot that did not show the same problem.

My guess is that mine fell under a bad batch of product.

I was just watching motorweek and they were showing the ZDX and the airbag and the center piece on the steeing wheel is the same color as above. I guess thats what happens when you outsource the steering wheel airbag and make it different from the steering wheel manufacturer
