Squeaky trunk when closing it
Not sure I understand, use grease/ lubricant? Are you uncertain where to apply, what to use, or how to apply?
First, examine if possible, the two crossed longitudinal torsion bar springs. Where they cross, there should be a rubber insulator, to prevent them rubbing together.
I don’t own a TL, but you should be able to see the pivot points of the actual hinges. Applying grease is impractical. If you suspect that they have never been lubed, and may be rusted, then buy some graphite oil, and apply sparingly. Open/ close the hatch a couple of times, then allow to sit overnight. that is to allow it to penetrate into any rust.
If you own a motorcycle, chain-lube is also good. Its too thin for permanent, but good for penetrating any old grease or rust. BUt most contain Moly, so use very sparingly, black Moly is bad stuff to get on anything you value.
Then use spray SUPER-LUBE, available from ACE hardware. Open/ close the hatch a couple of times, than apply a bit more. You must allow the grease to set-up, by leaving the hatch open overnight, or at least for a couple of hours. Immediately moving the hatch after applying the spray grease, will only push the thin grease away from the pressure points, and it will not be as good as allowing to setup.
SUPER-LUBE is GM recommend for hinges and locks, and actually sold at GM dealers under a GM part number and in GM packaging. It is alos available in a tube of grease from ACE hardware, for applications where you can actually apply a grease. It is an acceptable dielectric grease, but is best where plastic/ metal/ rubber parts are used, and where a water-proof grease is desired. It’s a PAO synthetic with 5% PTFE.
USE A PAPER TOWEL FOR DRIPS WHEN APPLYING LUBE.
