Small transmission leak

Small transmission leak
Hi,
I have a small leak from under this cover and I want to replace the o-ring that is there. Does anyone know if I have to drain the transmission fluid before I remove it?
Its located on driver side ,to the front of transmission...Item #7 on the diagram...
