Rusty Rotors?
I have a 2007 TL and I live in Connecticut. Rust set in on the brakes and the center of the wheel slowly the first year upon close inspection. It became more visibe this fall of 2009. I asked the dealer what they can do for me and they replied, we can clean them (Huh?), paint them (paint over rust?), or replace them (that costs money$$$) I guess I'll simply have to accept that they are brakes and exposed moving parts in the North East will rust.
Happy customer here.
At our dealer we are repainting them if a customer complains about them. It is normal since it is metal but it sticks out like a sore thumb on these cars for some reason. The rust is almost orange more than brown.
just as a heads up I had to pass the service manager and go to my initial salesman and dealer manager to complain about the way the issue was handled. granted I am 21 with a 40+k acura, the guys in service were extremely rude and wouldnt even both looking at my rotors when i said i wanted to get them painted. well after a few specific words with those guys, i went to my initial salesman and dealer manager and lets just say i got my way. i also got a bunch of free oil change coupons and what seemed to be a sincere apology (since the dealer manager was right there) for the way they mishandled the situation and mistreated me. i picked it up today and they did 4 coats on the front and 3 on the back with a high temp silverish paint which looks fantastic. i dont think ill be having any problems with rust on these. just a heads up for those guys who want to get their rotors painted which by the way is not under warranty but will usually be covered as a one time good faith act by the dealer, but you may have to puff your chest out and stand your ground and be persistent, but they should do it to you. i also brought it a copy of this entire blog to the dealer and explained to them that most "good" dealers take care of their customers. now to replace my front seat and the warping misaligned leather and try to prove its faulty from the factory...when i go back in next week so they can replace my front passenger speaker since it blew...end of rant!
I was told in Canada that there is no TSB# for any issues at all with the new TL yet not even the rusty rotors.
He did tell me if I could find something - even US he would look into for me.
Are there currently ANY tsb's in the US ?

As stated before, there are no bulletins regarding rusty rotors. Now as for other bulletins, are you saying you're interested in any and all other bulletins regarding 4G TLs?
Maybe point your dealer to this thread? Better yet, tell him to call Acura and ask for authorization to paint. One of the dealer I went to said they will have to call to get it painted. I ended up going to another dealer for another issue and since they kept the car I told them I wanted the rotors painted to. They did so as "good will" - their terminology. Whether they also called Acura for authorization I don't know.
My dealer saw the ring of rust around the rotors and says its normal that because the pad never touches there it will rust.
He even showed me another TL and TSX that had the same thing and they are also not painting them for anyone here in Canada.
So not sure if there really is an issue or not.

Since you're in North NJ / Central NJ, the Acura Regional Mgr's name is Frank. He's a prick. He doesn't even know how to drive to a stick and he's supposed to be an expert on Acuras. He'll most likely do nothing and then deny any warrenty repair. I've dealt with him twice in the past and he's been totally useless. He told me directly that his main job isn't to assist the consumer but to make sure that Acura Corporate needs are taken care of.
Took my 09 in 2 weeks ago for regular service. I mentioned the rust (especially the rear ones) and they said they'd try to clean them up. Of course, it made do difference. I then phoned my salesperson and informed him that rusting rotors on an 8 month old vehicle is not cool on a car that costs north of $40K and wanted to know whom I should call next. He agreed and said I should call the Service Manager on Monday and that he'd call him that weekend to give him a heads up on my impending call. Well, we weren't 10 seconds into the phone call when the Service Manager said he was aware of the situation and that if I'd give them the car for a day, they'd give me a loaner and repaint all 4 rotors. They painted them black and they look awesome. Kudos to Acura and especially Acura of Omaha for taking care of a VERY satisfied customer!
Lucky you, I am convinced the rotors thing is total luck of the draw with thh dealers. I have repeat asked my dealer in Augusta to do something and they are not interested. Called Acura and thier standpoint is "if your dealer wants to do something about it than more power to him, if not, we got nothing for ya"
Here's what my dealer sent me today in an email re: my rusty hub/rotor
"appreciate your concern. We have not yet received a fix for the rusty rear brake rotors that you have.
Whatever the other dealerships might be doing may only be a temporary solution to eliminate the eye sore and our intentions are to fix it for good.
I will make one other phone call as I haven’t received any information yet on what to do to fix this concern. Expect to hear from me in the next day or so with a better answer for you

What a cop out. Mine has been painted for almost a year and it went through some pretty harsh winter weather in Boston and it looks just as good as it did the day they painted it.
I don't see how that's "temporary".

09 tl awd tech
I wanted to let you know, if you already don't, that there is a bulletin on the rust issue for the rotors. I don't have it but my dealership, McGrath Acura in Westmont IL, told me about the bulletin. I am bringing my 09 TL AWD Tech in to repair the rusted rotors. I'm new to this forum and wanted to say that if i wasn't here reading about all the other TL owners having the same issue i might not have looked into this.
Look, guys, I'm telling you again, like in my post awhile ago, there is no bulletin on this issue. Not even so much as a service news, or even a Techline summary. I just double checked again, before I wrote this. There is absolutely nothing on ISIS regarding this issue. I'm only telling you this because, and trust me on this one, if you walk into a dealership, claiming you read something on "some Acura forum", and you have no hard proof, you will be laughed at
Now when there are officially TSBs, actual proven info, etc, that can be helpful to the tech, etc, assuming they don't already know about it. And there is nothing wrong bringing in info, don't think that's what I'm implying. But again, I'm just trying to save you guys from walking in there, as I know there is nothing regarding this
Just want to help people save face!
If anything ever does end up coming out in regards to this (be a bulletin, service news, Techline summary, etc), I will let all you know.

I am from NY and have 200 miles on my Acura. It has rained last week and have a ton of rust. I drove a bit and it came off however there is a bit of rotor rust on the edges. I bought my car from Acura of Westchester. Does anyone have experience with this dealership service dept?
