You might want to see if the dealer will change them out under warranty. That doesnt sound normal.

There is no way that those rust spots are real rust spots. I suspect they are spots from the dust from the brake pads or environmental fallouts.

I tried cleaning the trim pieces with car wash soap, and there was so luck getting rid of those yellow spots.
I don't want to believe it is real rust spot either, the trim pieces on my 04 EL still looks like brand new with no yellow/rust spots whatsoever. This is the part where i don't understand.
I am going down to my dealer next week and let them have a look.

Acura uses stainless steel for the trim pieces(I read this in one of their promo articles). Both anti-magnetic and magnetic stainless steel exist. Acura uses the magnetic therefore it contains some iron which may be the cause for your "rust spots"

thx for the information JLH. I am going down to my dealer this week and let them check it out what is going on with my trim pieces.
i hope it is nothing serious, and the spots can be polished away with some sort of cleaning product.

It'll come out with metal polish.

Pick yourself up some Blue Magic metal polish. Dab a little on a microfiber, buff and the buff to a shine. Same thing if you have chronic water spots on the same chrome pieces...

I had this problem when I first brought mine home from the dealer. Looked like rust spots ( I think they sat the car next to a sprinkler for a while). I used Never Dull wadding polish. They sell it at any auto parts store. Came off very easily and after one year hasnt come back.

Stainless steel usually contains large amounts of iron, typically 70 to 80%. The difference between magnetic and non-magnetic is determined by the ratio of the other components to iron which affect the crystal structure and thereby the magnetic properties.

Corrosion of the type described is usually due to contamination of the surface of the metal during manufacturing or by defects in the crystal structure at the metal surface that result in a chromium poor area (subject to corrosion) on the surface. During manufacturing various cleaning processes aka passivation are used to removed this contamination.

From Wikipedia:

"A typical passivation process of cleaning stainless steel tanks involves cleaning with sodium hydroxide and citric acid followed by nitric acid (up to 20% at 120 °F) and a complete water rinse. This process will restore the film, remove metal particles, dirt, and welding-generated compounds (e.g. oxides)."

Basically the yellow spots are a manufacturing defect caused by contamination followed by not doing a good passivation. Bad Acura. Bad bad bad!

Sometimes manual cleaning will fix it up. Otherwise complain to the dealer. It's not your fault.

if u use metal polish, make sure it doenst touch the paint!
i'd suggest u mask it off well beforehand!

for paint rust spots, i use claybar to take it out. it might work on the trim pieces. ?
