Question Repaint, or install side skirts?

hey everyone. as you can see from the pics, my tl has

a paint issue, just in front of the rear wheels. the issue

is basically the same on the drivers side and the

passenger side. its the only part of the car im not happy

with. its something that kind of bothers me.....its always

in the back of my mind. my question is this: will the aero

kit/ oem lip kit cover this part up? is this even a good idea?

or is getting the factory skirts repainted a good fix? this

will work only if i can find a good painter locally. im in n.w.

WI. thanks for your thoughts and input! acurazine is great!

pot- the issue is the paint is chipped off. may be from the edge that is out for road debri to hit it - over time? ive only owned it for 6 weeks. there does not seem to be a gap issue.

We have a similar issue because we don't have mud flaps. I remember when we lived in Madison, Dad's car got pretty beat up during the winter. In Oregon we don't use salt on the roads, instead we use tiny crushed rock (gravel) on the roadway. It is murder on the sides of the car. I don't like the look of the mud flaps, but the chips are now noticeable. Flaps would solve 75% of our problem. Touch up the big ones and get the aero kit.

um to answer your question, it will probably cost alittle more just to get new sideskirts than to repaint.

just buy the KIT skirts and you will be fine,

to make sure that it does not happen again, use some type of invisible shield, clear-bra, paint guard type of film.

this will ensure that it wont happen again.

Yes I've noticed it with my wife's car. No chips, but that area gets dirty all the time. The mud guards did help, but the clear bra idea is a good solution as well.
It's obviously not as noticeable on dark colored cars but it bugs me too.

Before i had the aero package installed that part of the car had the 3m plastic shield on it even though the car had the mud guards, now i know why that was done.Post some pictures after the tint and consider adding the complete aero package,it transforms the car.

Pot, just wanted to thank you for the great idea you had. Those side pcs on my wife's TL are still nice and clean so I had some left over clear Lamin-X film and applied it to that area on both sides to keep them from getting chipped.

i think you can remove that with some clay. Seems like stuff "on top " of the paint. Unless i am wrong and these are paint chips

Good luck

installing kit is a easy.

if you follow the instructions, you will be fine.

your only main concern is cutting the rear bumper.

my advice, measure twice, cut once.

My entire rocker was done and then around that area you are talking about a second piece was fitted on the inside of the door jab and then rolled out around that edge to meet the piece of the rocker. If you look close you can see the edge that runs the length of the rocker as well as the second piece that starts about half way down the passenger door.

I also had everything in front of the windshield also has clear bra on it (the bumper, entire hood, both fenders completely covered).

I had good luck using Opti-Coat 2.0 to make the clear bra look more like paint (shine/reflection).
