Quick question on FWD performance

I don't know if it's normal, but when I drive in D mode I slow to a red light then the light suddenly turns green I press on the gas pedal bit, it goes a bit faster but I don't feel a gear kick in only when I floor it all the way to the ground. This problem of course is gone in drive S mode.

The model of the car Is 2012 Acura TL FWD 6 speed automatic. I tend to slow down then press on the gas slowly, the car goes smoothly, If want it to go faster I press the throttle halfway, and it slowly starts to go but shouldn't a gear kick in? The only way for a gear to kick in is I have to floor the trottle all the way down. Is this normal?
Thank you.

The TL has an adaptive transmission in the sense that it learns how you drive and shifts accordingly. Since you are lightly pressing on the gas pedal (probably to save gas, IE coasting to a redlight then accelerate like posted above) the car decides to stay in the gear it's in (say 4th or 5th) and allows you to accelerate slowly.

I do the same exact thing but I tend to press into the pedal a bit more initially. After a week of driving the TL it learned my style and has been shifting great. I believe you can reset the computer by holding down the gas pedal for 25 seconds with the car in accessory mode but I don't know if that is valid for the 2009-2014 TL.

Best solution, lean into the pedal more frequently and leave it in D mode. It'll learn your style and what you want with due time.

Thank you for the reply you are right It does seem to get better with me pressing on gas pedal more.

I installed a new intake I was in S mode all the time maybe that was the cause.
