Propeller shaft, 2010 tl

Well, I feel a little shafted.
Having just purchased a 2010 tl, I am now hearing the “tea kettle whistle” sounds intermittently between 80 and 110 kph. While test driving before purchasing it, I kept the radio off and did mostly highway driving while listening for the noise after watching videos of what to look for. The car was silent. I didn’t make it through the first tank of gas and she began whistling. The car has 100k kms and no warranty. From my reading, this is usually from the middle propeller shaft bearing. Has anyone found a way to replace the bearing? I am in a state of disbelief that a car manufacturer would produce a drive shaft where you cannot replace the u joints or centre bearing.

DOORMAN makes one for the MDX, i'd imagine there is one for the TL also with a replaceable bushing.

I am on 3rd Dorman shaft. Something is not right with them, vibration at 60MPH (probably balance issue). The last replacement is the best one, but still not 100%

I'm going to save you lots of headache and search time: you cannot rebuild the propeller shaft. You cannot grease the Carrier bearing. The only option is to replace with a new one or a junkyard one from a 13-14 donor. When I went through this, I went to specialty driveshaft rebuild shops and they all told me the shaft was not serviceable. The ones who did rebuild them, had em come back months later for issues. I did all the work myself and replaced with a 2014 donor. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I am surprised that the aftermarket hasn’t picked up on the opportunity to manufacture a replacement shaft with serviceable/grease able bearings and joints. My whistle is intermittent, I will start looking for a used shaft with the updated bearing.

Since my last post my noise has pretty much gone away. It has recently returned and I now realize that it is quiet when I drive in rainy conditions and noisy when it is dry. While doing some searches on the subject I came across an interesting video,
I am thinking of taking a stab at this and am curious to know if anyone has tried similar?

Mine also returned... with a vengeance! It's much louder and lower pitched. It was a whine before, now it's a full out death scream. Only happens below 30F temperature. Thanks for the video, may have to give that a try!

I had the replaced under warranty at year 4 of 2009 TL. It has not been an issue since. The only fix is to replace part aka Propeller shaft.
