Power Assisted Brakes?

Sorry if this is a newbie question - I actually just moved from a 05 Cavalier to a 09 TL, so its like day and night.

Just a question - are the brakes like power assisted or something? Feels like when I slow down as if something is powering down as I kind of feel one pulse sometimes like something kicks in to help it slow down more...is it just me..or is the car really like this?

Or is something wrong?

Also when braking - should the car come to a straight smooth stop always, or at times could it slightly pull a bit to one side when stopping a little quick? I just got the car about 5 days ago and only has 500KM (canadian) on it.

Thank you for any help!!

I think all cars have power assisted brakes otherwise it would be quite a workout stopping the car.

Do you feel the pedal pulse when stopping? If so then its anti-lock brakes, which shouldn't be going off during normal braking. Otherwise maybe its the transmission downshifting as you slow down that you're feeling? The car shouldn't pull to the side when braking though, might want to get it checked out.

Yea I think its downshifting near the end of braking - is that normal? I never used to feal that on my Cavalier, but again thats a totally different car.

It's normal for many newer cars. Uses the engine to assist in braking to keep the wear off the pads. The car will downshift when slowing going down a hill to assist in holding a slower speed so you don't need to continue to ride the brakes.

Don't forget the brakes are huge on this car, especially compared to your cavalier. Once they warm up when you start to brake, they will grab and slow you down very quick.

It's downshifting and what you feel is the "hesitation" as the TL rev matches the downshift.
