Popping noise when turning
Popping noise when turning
My '14 TL SH-AWD makes popping noises when turning the steering wheel to the right only. It is most pronounced when backing the car out of a parking spot. The more I turn the steering wheel to the right I hear light popping noises. Doesn't make the noise when turning the wheel to the left. I haven't noticed the noise when turning the wheel at higher speeds. Other than this, I don't hear any other suspension noises during normal driving. Which suspension part is causing this?
Might be your lower ball joints. Same thing happened to me where after I turned my steering wheel to full lock, I heard something pop. Further steering wheel movement would make the popping noises, and effort required to turn the wheel increased.
It's an inexpensive repair, but you should get your car up on a lift and have the suspensions checked out to verify.

I have the popping noise, when backing out of my parking space like you, but it's very intermittent. I'm under extended warranty and took it to the dealer to diagnose, but they claimed they couldn't get it to make the noise. I suspect it's a ball joint issue. So I'll bring it back if / when it happens more frequently.
I agree and would definitely check into this. In my experience when the CV boot gets a tear or rips...the grease comes out and the joint looses lubrication with the popping noise as a result. Way back when most mechanics would repack the joint and put on another CV boot. Now days...they pretty much will replace the entire axle. Any easy check for an (outboard) CV boot tear is look at the inside of the wheel...there'll be a coating of grease all over the inside perimeter.
