So i was parallel parked on 2 way (one lane each way) street, facing east in the parking spot and had to go east. Car pulls up behind me waiting for my spot, i wave, acknowledge him, he gives the head nod and i proceed to pull out. Guy behind him didnt want to wait, decides to overtake him by going through the oncoming traffic side. while he was re entering the lane, he hit me. i straighten out the car and stop. this guy hesitates and goes up the block and makes a right turn.

I go up there and he gets out the car with his passenger. Seems like they switched drivers. two distinct looking ppl, one Looked like the anorexic love child of Howard stern and sideshow bob, who i thought was the driver, and then other was an older guy in a messenger boy hat. Im super pissed, but i have my insurance, registration and license on hand, just wanting to exchange info. I call CPD, they ask if there any injuries or incapacitated vehicles. I said no. then they told me to exchange information and head down to the closest precinct and file the report.

I ask the older guy, who claimed he was driving for his info. He asked why, i told him why and he at first refused. THIS GOT MY BLOOD BOILING. i told him he hit me, and i need his info so i could go file the report. as soon as i said that "he hit me", Sideshow Stern comes out and goes "YOU HIT US!!!". i wanted to clock Sideshow Stern right there but did not, Like an adult, i called CPD back and told them the guy was refusing to go to the precinct and exchange info. At this point i had 3 of my other buddies taking pictures of the cars and location and everything. CPD sent a patrol car and pretty much told the guy if he doesnt go to the precinct they'll cuff him. He wisely decided to come. We exchanged info and i was on my way.

At the precinct i gave my account of what happened after like 15 minutes the guy shows up.

Thats the google map location of the CPD location. The older guy starts driving around on that concrete walk way thinking its parking. He hoped the curb and pulled up to the main enterance. The officers inside were like WTF, and said whose that, i chime in saying, thats the guy who hit me. He comes in, and the officer whose gathering info asks him what happened.... he goes... i dont know. she gives him a confused look and is like what do you mean, you dont know? She whips out hot wheels and asks him to demonstrate what happened. hes lost and cant do it. she calls me over and i show her, she looks at him and asks "is that what happened". He gives this very confused Larry David-esque head shake and goes "idk" and walks away. She gets all the witnesses information, i had 3 friends with me, he had Sideshow. They leave.

So i go up to the lady and ask what to do with the motorist report. In NJ we just exchange info, on scene cop takes down both sides, and sends in the report. We go home, file the claim and pick up the report from the police department. While asking her this, she rolls her eyes at the guy and says dont worry, i can see that guy was lying and i'll make a note of his driving behavior on the side walk here too in the report. Good news for me. She tells me to give the report number to your agent and they'll know what to do.



Thank god none of the lights were damaged and it seems like i just need to get the front driver side quater panel replaced. the bumper has no holes or tears and i didnt notice any of the clips broken. Seems like it'll be a quick repair. No fludis leaking and no electrical issues.

My question to you guys is, Would it be better to get the fender replaced or have them bang it out and line it up? id personally replace the fender cause it would be a tedious job to get it lined up just right. hopefully i can find one in the PMM as a replacement.

 

Sorry that this happened to you, people just try to get away with anything, if I were young would have that replaced.

 

I got to give you all the credits for being cool man. If that was me, I would have decked the Sideshow Stern when he came out and went with "YOU HIT US!!!" .
Anyway, you didn't get hurt that's a good thing. Personally, I just replace the fender because if they fix it, regardless how good they are, it still won't be like it was before. To save all the hassle, just replace the fender my

 

I'm new here, so go ahead and haze the FNG. My 2010 was violated on the 31st by a 2014 Pilot. It is at S&M Import Auto in Irvington, NE. They've done all of the body work for multiple Hondas that I've owned. Yeah, I have kids, so I'm a good customer. I am sick that this happened to this car. 50K miles. $4,400 to fix.

i would just get new bumper and fender.. dont cheap out if the other insurance is paying for it.

 

If it looks like you'll need body paint (hard to tell from photo) you should probably go ahead and replace it. If not, a good body shop should be able to get it perfectly straight. If you can avoid the cost/hassle of repainting body parts, IMO it's worth it.
