Low Brake Fluid warning

Hi all,

Today on my way back from work I had to slam on the brakes pretty hard.
A couple of second after the car was stopped, I got a Low Brake Fluid warning in the MID. It stayed on for a second or two and disappeared. I have not seen it come on again.

Anything I should do about it ? I figure that the car's nose dove down a bit causing the fluid to move around, tripping the sensor. Does it make sense ?

Thanks

Seems pretty obvious but did you check your fluid level? When was the last time your fluid was replaced?

I have no clue

I just do my services at the dealership everytime the car tells me it's due.
I would think that at some point they checked it not that long ago.

MID still showing 40% oil life so my next service is in a little bit still. I suppose I may have to check myself but I have no clue how

I'll Google it

brake fluid container is on driver side under the covers by the winshield.
fluid needs to be replaced every 2-3 years!

The level is marked on the container with min and max level. If it is low you may have a leak at the master cylinder or at a brake line or caliper. Either way, it's something you should have checked out.

Brake fluid is very corrosive and will eat through paint and other things very quickly! Be careful when pouring and wear gloves!

Brake fluid absorbs water over time and can cause rust and damage the whole brake system.

MID shows you an estimated oil life left, not oil level left either!

The brake system is a sealed system, and the brake fluid won't disappear by itself unless there is a leak in the system.

However, the brake fluid level will become lower as the brake pads start to wear down.

My brakes have been squeaking a bit but only in the morning when I first get going. I figured it was due to surface rust on the rotors from sitting there overnight...

That has more of a grinding sound than a squeak and you only hear that at really slow speeds barely on the brakes.
