Loud clunk/knock in steering column in 09 TL

From time to time I'm getting a quite loud clunk/knock which appears to be coming from the steering column. I can also feel it on the steering wheel. It used to be very rare, but I'm seeing it more frequently now. Sometimes multiple times in a day, sometimes not for days or weeks on end. I can't find the exact conditions that reproduce it, so I'm weary on bringing it into the dealer until I can. It doesn't necessarily happen when turning, but lately it seems to be happening more when coming to a stop. Has anybody else experienced this?

I just try and ignore it.

I had the same issue with my 2009 TL. The dealer replaced the steering column under warranty about 6 months ago and it took care of the problem. I have not heard the noise since the steering column was replaced.

I have an 09 base and haven't had any clunks yet luckily (at 76k) but there's a noticable "spooling" noise when I back out of the driveway and turn the wheel hard over. Is this normal? I've had a Legend and two Accords and never experienced it with those. Is it due to the electrical assist power steering maybe? It sounds like there's a steel cable in there winding up - not anything obnoxious, but "different" than I'm used to... Don't really notice it much other than first thing in the morning, but it may be that everything's quiet then.

I had the same clunk/pop. I think there is an old TSB old it for the 09's. I Got the dealer to repalce it under warranty after i had the tech sit in the car and while i demo the noise.

I also have the clunk noise from my steering column and wanted to see if they need to actually hear the noise from the steering column, because I, too, can't always get it to make the sound. I thought it was from accelerating from a stop while turning.

Does anyone know if they fix it for free if you have an aftermarket warranty by ASE? I think mine has a $100 minimum to repair anything.

Thanks for any responses.
