Intermittent battery drain
Intermittent battery drain
I’m troubleshooting my roommates 2010 Acura TL. She has had her battery drain twice completely in the past 2 months now, and I’m not sure what’s causing it.
The first battery tested out with a collapsed cell, so I replaced for her. The new battery is a standard lead/acid and has functioned fine for the past month but died on her the other morning. Battery was 70% discharged but in good condition. She had driven it the night before, then drove once in the morning for 5 minutes to the store where it wouldn’t start again for her. I charged the batt overnight and she fired right back up. Alternator charging at idle at 14.2v. 14.3v and 3k rpm. Car goes into shutdown mode and is drawing 250mA for the first few minutes, then 10mA steady when completely shut down.
It appears to me that the problem she’s having, presumably a parasitic draw, is intermittent. I will note that she leaves her phone charger plugged in but not in use and does not ever lock her car, but I wouldn’t think that would kill the battery.
Are there any well known issues I should look into first? Older gen TLs had the Bluetooth module fail, but haven’t heard about it on the 4th gen. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

does the car have smart keyless entry? Car should be locked to let the car go to "sleep" with 10mA draw and stay there and not continually wake when sensing the key. Any aftermarket equipment? You could always try unplugging the bluetooth module....
No, she doesn’t have keyless entry. She did say that her BT was on the fritz the week leading up to her dead battery though, but I chocked it up to low battery voltage.
