take the key out of the remote, there is a slot where you can stick like a penny in and twist to pop the remote open in half.

Sorry to revive this old thread but I have a couple of related questions that I don't believe were covered elsewhere.

1- How long do we have from when the "Change battery" message comes on to the moment when the key dies completely ?

2- If the battery were to die completely, would inserting the key fob in the slot and pressing the button start the car ?

1. I'm not exactly sure. I've gone a month or two without changing it and the car still started, which leads me to #2.

2. If the fob is low or dead, the car will not start without putting the key fob in the slot.

I'd replace the battery as soon as it gives you the warning.
It's a PITA to have to plug the fob in the slot.

Plus, the finish on the remote is crap as it is.
Every time you put the fob in the slot it scratches and peels the finish off the remote.

Lightly sand that shitty black finish off the sides of the FOB, use 3M Vinyl in its place. Good as new.

Yeah, that's what I did.
I just couldn't get it to wrap around the top rounded corners real well.
I will say the vinyl wrapped remote looks great.
Plus, it matches my grille and rear trim.
