Help!!!!!!!help!!!!!

Ok. My head light bulb went out a couple of weeks ago I bought an after market bulb, walked into the dealership to get it replaced.

They put it in and it was wrong when I drive off. A couple of hrs later my light goes off again. I called the dealership to let them know, and they said to bring it back in. When I brought the car back they came back and told me that I needed; the Circuit Control Unit, ignator, and of course another bubl to replace all that it was going to cost me $989. I asked what caused that, and how come now I need 3 parts instead of 1. The service Rep couldn't explain tha to me. It Didn't make any sense to me.

so I left and started doing some research around to see if I could get it fixed and not have to pay as much if it came down to me needing to replace all 3 parts. I finally found another dealership that said they would do it cheaper.

So I took the car to them. After I left my car @ the 2nd dealership 2hrs later I get a phone call telling me "ma'am I was giving you a call to tell you we need to replace the CcUnit, ignator, and the bulb" No shitt that's what I told you guys I needed to Fix. They didn't get to work on the car that day. Next day I get a call from the Service Rep saying that they ran into something else. So now I need to replace my Headlight Housing and all 3 things I came in for.. How Did That Happened!!!!! Help me, how did it go from one headlight bulb being out to being to replace the whole light feature plus the components of the light bulb??????

Unlikely, but its possible your aftermarket bulb damaged your ballast or igniter. Seems unlikely though. You could find all the parts you need used if you look hard enough.

There are 4 parts to each headlight assembly (well 5 if you count the standard day time running light bulb in there too), the igniter, inverter (or control unit), the HID bulb and the headlight housing. If there is moisture getting inside the housing, the housing will need to be replaced (or resealed). If the igniter/inverter are going out you will have times where the light is on and other times when it is out. If you are already replacing the igniter/inverter, it would be a good idea to replace the bulb at the same time, and you might want to go with a factory bulb if you want the color to be close to the other side.

what is exactly wrong with the housing? take a pic and post it in here..

i highly doubt you need the whole headlight replaced.. if its just the bulbs and ballast, you can find those on ebay for about 150 bucks.. shit even TRS sells them for that price

A couple years ago I asked my dealer how much it would cost for a new bulb for my 3G TL.
I was just curious.
He replied that they will only replace the bulb, circuit board and ballast if a light goes out.

His reason was that they can't really tell which component is bad and rather than incur extra expense and time in replacing the bulb only to have it burn out again because of a circuit/ballast issue they found it more cost effective to replace the whole unit. At that time it was $700 a light.
Of course I said damn, that's one expensive light bulb!
