Drivers seat too low- 2012 TL Advanced

at its maximum height, the driver's seat is much lower than the passenger seat. Came as a big surprise to me when a friend sat in the passenger seat and towered over me.

Is a problem for me cause I find the driver's seat much too low for me (and I'm 6'1") and my wife refuses to drive it with it that low.

Acura dealers (I called 4 of them) were surprised, but verified it. They have no idea why.

Any suggestions?

I too, have noticed the driver side seat being lower than the passengers seat at full height. I am over six feet tall so am not too bothered by it, other than why it is. My driver side seat is about 1/2 to 5/8 inch lower. You did not state how much lower yours is.

i would think it's a safety thing if it gets into a collision.
steering column to ur legs cant be fun. no steering column on the passenger side, so it can be higher.

that would be my guess.

Nowadays, steering columns are collapsible to protect the drivers. I don't think the newer Honda/Acura vehicles are any exceptions.

TA DA !!!--the Acura answer--

I spoke to the Acura- U.S. Customer Service Manager--

it seemed to be a surprise to them too, but they spoke to the techys at the plant/design dept. The driver's seat was intentionally designed to be lower, because.......
"of the position of the steering wheel, air bags and pedals"- pedals I don't get, but it seems the issue that makes some sense has to do with the steering wheel & air bag and if you were higher and had an accident it would not function properly.
I can understand that now that the cars are built, but why the heck didn't they design it (steering, air bags, etc), taking intro consideration that many of us don't want to sit 1-2" lower in the driver's seat.
Wish there was something I could do but...the only suggestion I got was "what about buying a pillow to sit on"---no comment!!!

spoke to a body shop about raising the seat

they can raise the seat- but the concern on their part is the air bag functioning properly if there is a collision, but they're not sure-- Any idea if this is a problem?

I don't think Acura cares about people wanting the driver sitting "evenly" with the passenger seat, they are more concerned with getting you out of the car with minimal injuries in the case of a collision. Keep in mind, when designing the seating position, they have to take into account that the steering wheel can be adjusted up or down, and telescoped out to any position regardless of the seating position. Plus, in the unfortunate even of a roll-over, you want to be lower in the vehicle....trust me!
