My TL has 57k miles now. I was able to get my 3rd gear synchros replaced under warranty because it kept popping out.

Now recently I'm having trouble shifting into 1st gear from neutral. It happened once a few days ago during the morning; I thought perhaps I shift with enough force. Car is idling still at a stop light; light turns green, and when I tried to shift into 1st gear, the gear wouldn't engage. I had to reshift to neutral and back to 1st a couple of times before finally 1st gear engaged. Almost didn't make it past the stop light in time...

Then this morning it happened again. When I thought I shifted into 1st gear, I stepped on the gas, and car didn't move. Had to reshift twice before 1st finally engaged.

Occurring once I can pass it off as human error. But now twice! Knowing Acura they would blame it as driver error.

Has anyone had difficulty shifting into 1st gear from neutral? All other gears are fine.

Car is 2010 6MT. First it was 3rd gear pop out, now excessive oil consumption that Acura refuses to address under warranty, then this.

 

how long ago did you get the synchro's done? If the trans was not put back together properly it can cause that issue.

 

Can't remember exactly, I have to check records at home. I would guess probably 2 years ago when the car had 35k miles.

 

sounds like either the linkage, or the synchros.



you can try putting it into REVERSE first, then go to 1st gear
I forgot the reason why race car drivers do this, i think it has to do with the syncros

 

Did you get your shifting issue fixed? Today coming from work I wasn't able to shift into 2nd after a quick start until a couple of tries. Now I have problems getting it into 1st from neutral just like you stated below. I may have jacked up the linkage?
