Cold Start Up & Change From Drive to Park
Cold Start Up & Change From Drive to Park
Hey guys,
Got a couple of questions and noticed some issues. If they are issues maybe it is regular operating procedure for my 2012 FWD TL.
1st: I live in Canada and just this week it has been really cold and on start up it sounds completely different. Push the ignition then it chugs along for a couple of seconds and when the car starts it is honestly like the engine is revving. Maybe its because its really cold outside, i dont know. Also when driving for the 1st few minutes the engine does seem to rev a bit and bit a little bit weaker (i do let the car warm up for at least a minute or two). Anyone else experience this?
2ndly: When putting my car from park to drive or vice versa i hear a large clunking sound. Transmission shifting? Is this also normal?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's -19C where i am right now.
#1 is normal-ish. Sometimes the starter will make more noise when it's super cold out. Also when it's that cold and the engine hasnt warmed up, keep the rev's down. None of your fluids are flowing right. When it's cold the auto choke is on and the engine will idle higher than at operating temps.
#2 is normal in any condition. The colder it is, the louder the clunk and sometimes even a bit of a jerk when shifting out of park.
