Car kicks when it downshifts while breaking

I have an 09TL/tech and when I am breaking on from a decent speed...the car would downshift on it's own and i notice a high rev downshift and it kicks/jerks the car...is anyone experiencing this...does this even make sense to some of you???

Everytime I come up to a stop light the 2-1 shift kicks. Its annoying, I know what you mean. I think its normal... its not a very smooth tranny.

Ya, but it can be rough or clunky on that particular shift. It jolts the car forward.

It shouldn't clunk, it should downshift on braking but smoothly. Ever changed the fluid? Try resetting the ecu for 30 mins.

Its more just a noticable abrupt shift. I'll talk to acura on my next service about it.

If changing the transmission fluid was in the scheduled maintenancethen its been changed, otherwise it has not.

If you're after a smooth tranny...... a Honda tranny shouldn't be on your list.

It is what it is but I've been driving Hondas since day 1 and really don't care..they've been reliable (to me atleast)

How noticeable? I feel mine shift, but no clunking. It is supposed to be abrupt but not jarring.

Im pretty picky, my passengers probably would not notice but I do. My RL before this was smoother.

Ive felt a car with a clunky transmission and I dont think theres anything mechanically wrong with my car its just not smooth.

Mine does it around 38mph when breaking. Gonna get the fluid changed and hope it helps.

Obviously the problem is you guys are breaking your brakes. Brakes are used to aide a vehicle in slowing down and break means to make something useless.

Has anyone tried resetting the ecu to force the car to relearn its parameters?

I was told by the mechanic at my dealership that this was not possible. If anyone else was told differently, please let us know. BTW- I own a 2012 TL (no FWD) with a 6 spd trans.

This is one of the few automatics I've driven where you can actually feel it downshift. It's normal; other TL's Ive driven do the same thing. All automatics need to downshift of course, but on these you just feel it more. I dont mind it too much since I know what it's doing. It's little things like this and the firm shifting that help me actually like these auto's over many others....not as numb feeling as many other automatics are.
