A/C Intermittenly just quits
Early production 2012 TL Tech, (purchased new in March of '11) today has 17,500 miles (yes, only 17k) - obviously not a daily driver and mostly only short trips when it is driven.
This past week the A/C system has intermittently begun shutting completely down, as though you shut if off. We can turn it on again and all is well, good cooling, but then within a few minutes it shuts down again.
Any suggestions as to what's going on here?
Thanks in advance

Could just be low refrigerant, but it's really not supposed to leak. Maybe relay going out? The A/C is the only issue I've had with my 4G that I haven't been able to solve yet. My current issue is that it blows cold on passenger side and warm on drivers side(sometimes). Compressor replaced and refrigerant filled to spec. Compressor kicks on as normal now but still the difference between driver and passenger side has me stumped. My 4G has 230k miles though and looked like crap when I took the original one out. I need to subscribe to all 4G related A/C threads :-)
Please understand that it shuts off.
the fan stops blowing
the dash display extinguishes (except for the radio) goes off, exactly as though you shut the climate control system completely down. **OFF**
You can turn it back on and it runs fine again for anywhere from a few minutes to a few days, then happens again.
When it's on, it cools just fine, no indication of low refrigerant
It just shuts completely down all by itself

Re-occurrence is random, Anything from 10 minutes to a week later. No dupe scenario. It just completely stops, all by itself, no human interaction. However, you can immediately turn it on again and it is fine for anywhere to recurring again within 10 minutes or not recurring again for the next week or two. It has also occurred a couple timesimmediately upon starting the car the first thing in the AM. In other words, the A/C is running when we park the car & turn off the engine. Normally when you restart the engine the A/C would immediately come back on, except when the anomaly occurs it does not automatically come on. You have to manually turn it on.
It has never failed to manually turn on... even those times when it shuts off all by itself, you can manually turn it back on (immediately) and it will stay on, sometimes for only 5~10 mins before going off again, other times it will stay on indefinitely.
The display is shutting off? Hmm, I don't think it would have anything to do with low refrigerant @ all then. Sounds like some kind of electrical issue. If it were me I'd check out the fuses/relays look @ the blower and blower motor resistor, hope its not some circuit board failing...
