Brake Vibration

Hello Everyone while driving spiritely on the high way i experienced brake vibration when slowing down hard. At 100 they would virbated rather heavy, at 70 they would vibrate but not terrible and slower would be slight vibration. Any ideas what would cause this?

un-even pad deposits on the rotor.
or maybe even a warped rotor.

have them cut/turned and then do a proper bed-in process.

I experienced that in my old car and it was in fact a warped rotor, like justnspace mentioned. I took advantage of the situation and upgraded to drilled/slotted rotors rather than having the OEM's resurfaced.

Same here, as the others have mentioned sounds like a warped rotor.. Anytime I have experienced this in the past that's what it was.

I agree with ucf_bronco. Perfect time to upgrade to some slotted rotors.

I have the feeling that at the first signs of rotor warping or aging, I will use it as an excuse to upgrade well.

If you're "warping" rotors it might be time to upgrade to a more durable rotor. If so consider our Acurazine Brake Package:

^ Yep, the stock rotors suck. Good excuse to upgrade.

Likely to be rotors. My brakes do the same and I have some nice rotors and pads for a the replacement. I will upgrade with stoptech slotted rotors from Excelerate and some Hawk ceramic pads.

I figure 65k miles on the oem rotors and pads is pretty decent life, but it's time for an upgrade.

Yea mined were warped to. Got them resurfaced for now. The vibrations stopped. I noticed that the rotors and breaks all together aren't that great on Acuras. Had a 09 TSX rotors warped twice on me. Not like I drove that thing hard or anything.

Def will be looking at the stoptech package when the time comes to change em

So much misinformation on this topic. It is very difficult to warp a brake rotor; it's a hunk of steel half an inch thick, or more. A lot of folks say warped when they should say "scored". Two different things. If you are truly warping rotors then you are either driving with your foot on the brake all the time, or your brakes are so far gone that they are metal on metal, or you have frozen calipers due to lack of regular maintenance. They have to get very hot to actually warp and normal driving with a properly maintained system will not cause rotors to warp. You cannot expect the brake system parts to last 3 or 4 year without maintenance. The rotors on the 4th gen TL are actually very good quality.

In the 1st post the OP states: "At 100 they would virbated rather heavy, at 70 they would vibrate but not terrible and slower would be slight vibration. Any ideas what would cause this?"

To me that isnt "normal" driving and would get the rotors very hot..... yes/no?

I have not had much luck with my brakes even after my upgrade to EBC parts. Recently had my rotors resurfaced at dealer with on-vehicle pro-cut machine (@ $200) and now less than 2K miles I am feeling brake pulsation again. In addition to brake & rotors issues I also replaced links & tie rods caused by this pulsation. Back brakes seem to work fine – albeit they are much smaller braking system back there. Do you think the ceramic pads are just not meant for this vehicle (rotors too small) – from what I read they do not do a good job of transferring heat which results in rotors picking up this heat and causing them to warp (and I know many articles indicate that rotors don’t warp but rather get material build up from pads causing lateral runout – I am not convinced that is the case especially with ceramic pads). I travel 75 miles to work (almost all highway) so I do very little braking – but when I do I need to have the confidence that my vehicle will stop. Any other ideas you have to address this issue? Wheel bearings appear to be ok based on my test (rocking tire back & forth at 12:00 / 6:00 and 3:00 / 9:00 O’clock) as well as inspection by Acura dealer when they resurfaced the rotors. As a standard practice I always torque down lug nuts. Desperately seeking advice from a braking expert.

79,600
Replace front pads (switched from semi metallic to ceramic)
87,430
Replace front rotors (same pads, stock rotors) due to pulsation
103,000
Upgraded front & rear pads & rotors to EBC slotted rotors & red brakes due to pulsation
115,400
Replaced caliper pins & rebuild calipers on front brakes to address pulsation
122,000
resurface front rotors to address pulsation

pulsation is caused by an uneven rotor surface, either from pad deposits or warped disks. Disks can easily warp by being sprayed with water when they are hot! Good rotors resist this and can last a LONG time.

I had the same issue on all 3 of my Acuras. On my 3G TL I tried factory rotors and got the same vibration. I then switched to Racing Brake rotors and have had the same rotors on my TL for over 120K miles. I've used 3 sets of Acura A-Spec pads and love the setup. If I had to do it over again, I'd do slotted rotors only on the front, not the rears as well.

On my MDX I swapped right to Racing Brakes when I started getting the pulsation for the front rotors, factory for the rears. I used factory pads with them and the braking performance improved but not by that much, maybe a few feet less from 100MPH. Pedal feel was a lot better and the initial bite was a lot better. I'm going to swap to some carbotech pads to help improve braking performance.

On my 4G TL, I still have the warped rotors but I'm planning on getting a set of Racing Brake Rotors or Adam's Custom Rotors with slots. I've been extremely happy with Racing Brake.

rotors are not meant to be resurfaced.. keep that in mind. never resurface rotors.

I just replaced the brake pads on my tsx today. And it went with centric ceramic posi quiet pads..I already have ebc slotted rotors. And I noticed a slight vibration upon braking...when I inspected the rotors I could see pad deposits. I used scotchbrite pads and lots of elbow grease and rubbed off all of the Deposits.

I need to do this on our tl when I have some time. I plan to go with Centric pads on the tl as well.

I just came across this thread since I was noticing my wife's 2012 TL exhibits brake juddering when slowing from freeway speeds. I figure this is probably some warping of the rotors and it is not clear to me as to whether there is any chance this would be covered under warranty (coming up on 4 years) or whether this is viewed strictly as a wear item. Anyone have experience getting a rotor taken care of under warranty?

Thanks.
