I unfortunately have the oil consumption issue on the J37, but I recently did an oil change and 3 days after it started ticking. I have the video, and it sounds more like belt tensioner than any internal like camshaft or rod knock. Anyone know?

 

Unfortunately, I congratulate you with the rod knock.

 

It only knocks in 1st and second and when the engine is still cold there’s no knocking, that’s why I think it might be tensioner

 

It was, unfortunately, the rod knock. Going to try fixing it this weekend.

 

How did you confirm rod knock? It's hard to tell on the video but it also sounds like the camshaft. You can use a stethoscope to listen on the upper part of the engine. Camshaft would make the noise at half the rotation of the rpm. So in 3rd gear there's no noise at all?

 

I beleive it could be either or. I’m tearing the engine down this Saturday and I ordered new bearings and piston rings. Worst comes to worst, I get a new camshaft.
