Bad Motor/Engine Mount on SH-AWD

Hey guys,

So I have been having this problem for the past two months where whenever I put the car from P to R and R to D and vice versa I would hear this loud clack noise. Took it to dealer and they said they loosened and tightened all suspension parts and everything looked good. So yesterday I was at my friends house and his uncle who was a mechanic had me put the car in D and R to see if we heard the noise. Didn't think we would because it's intermittent but low and behold the noise was there so we popped the hood. So he asked me do it again and so I did this time with the hood open. Yup, the engine appeared to be moving around too much and loose. No wonder why car felt funny sometimes at accelerating and it was consistent all the time. So I was taking it in there next Friday. Anyone ever experience problem such as these before?

Why question is when my car has been in there when I complained about the noise why weren't they able to find these problems?

The Stealership doesn't look for problems not in the book.

Take it to a mechanic to get new mounts... you're way past warranty anyways.

I still has warranty. I got the extended good for 100K. So I took it into dealer and service writer said he doesn't think it is the mounts. They show me a 2010 RL SH-AWD that came in for bad mounts and that engine wanted to jump out so I don't think it is the mounts. The techs will look at it tomorrow and let me know for sure what they found so stay tuned.

I have found over the last 5 years of owning a couple Acuras that the Acura dealership I use in Chicago does their best NOT to solve the problem the first time. I've had warped brake rotors, loose speaker housings and a bubbling noise from the transmission which EACH required 2 visits to fix after they "couldn't duplicate the problem" or claimed to have "fixed" the problems during the first visit. If you bring it back multiple times (and be nice) they'll eventually find a solution.

Also, if you have an opportunity to bring it to another Acura dealer I'd go that route as well and just make it clear that the other dealer didn't fix the problem. If the new dealer wants your future business they'll get the problem fixed the first time.

I get a clunk noise when I shift from R to D. I noticed it in the AM when I back out of my driveway. I put the car in R, back out. I come to a stop, shift from R to D, and as I start to slowly roll forward I hear a loud "clunk" noise. It pretty much does this all the time.

is that normal? is this what ou are describing? I do NOT get a noise shiting from D to P. I don't recall ever hearing it when I shift from P to Reverse.... it ONLY happens when I am shifting from Reverse to Drive. and I'm not shifting it while rolling backwards....

I can be totally stopped...after backing out of driveway, then shift to D, and as I start to roll forward, I hear the clunk noise. I assumed it was someting hte transmission or AWD system....

maybe what I"m hearing is a bad mount? similar to your problem? or is mine normal?

What YOU are hearing is normal. That is your anti lock breaks doing a calibration.

OK so problem solved. It was the rubber bushings in the lower control arms which they had to replace both control arms because they couldn't just replace the bushings. Its a complete unit so now I have two new control arms. Noises are gone now no more clunks.
