Sportshift mode - slow shift response?

Hello Everyone,

I've had my TL since the beginning of May and I'd like to thank the site for providing so much information thus far. Had I not known about the recall on the torque converter, I don't think the dealership would've been so forthcoming about it. I've read and searched a lot of information here that has helped me out but I can't seem to find any posts on a "possible" issue I may be having.

The reason I say possible is because I'm not sure if it's be design or not. I have a 2010 SH-AWD TL WDP on factory 19" with the SBC wheels. It's a great car at a level I'm not familiar with. With that said, I feel as if there's an inherent delay with the response in shifting in manual mode.

When I shift up (or down) there's at least a half second delay between entering the command and the transmission shifting. This is both on hard acceleration and moderate. I've never owned a sportshift transmission before so I have nothing to base it off of. Other than the reviews and videos of how responsive the sportshift mode is, I feel there's a big delay in response.

So I guess my question is if that's NORMAL. Is the delay in sportshifting for the 2010 half-a-second or so? Or is it more immediate?

Thanks

Update

Called the dealer. Service adviser says that the half-second delay is normal. What are your experiences?

I'd say that's pretty normal. I have a 2012 which has a different transmission, but I'm betting the sportshift experience is the same except for the double downshift feature. I think that was new for 2012, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I will say the reaction is a bit faster though in my 2012 versus my old 2001 CL Type S. They've improved it some but my understanding (from general research) is the only way to improve that reaction even more, is to use a dual clutch automatic. That would be great if Acura offered these in the future, but my fear is cost. I have no idea for sure, but it seems only the really pricey models are offering this for now.

Thanks for the reply Buffa. I guess there's no way around it. I kept bouncing off the rev limiter. It's a nice touch to have the sportshift but I wish it was a little more responsive. I'll just adjust to the response time so I don't redline on hard accel. :-)

No problem. Yeah, eventually you'll get the timing down perfect. I think it's about 100-200 RPMS before redline...if you pull it then, it shifts about perfectly at redline. Funny, I can't picture it in my head sitting here at work, but if I was sitting in my car typing this, I'd probably know exactly what hash mark. Darn work always gets in the way.
