Quick question guys. Why don't our cars hold 1st gear in manual mode (automatic transmission)? It's kinda annoying... Only way to get it to stay is if you hammer it, otherwise the car shifts into 2nd on its own, and this is in manual mode! It shifts automatically at low rpms, then refuses to shift back into 1st.

 

its been done to protect the transmission as folks won't shift out of first and can damage their cars.

 

Ah that's a bummer. It shifts at like 3k rpms at a slow pace of acceleration (in first) and refuses to downshift on command, even while maintaining the same speed.

 

It shouldn't be shifting at 3K. You do know that even in "S" mode, it will shift automatically until you hit one of the paddles...it just changes the shift points.

 

Only the 2012+ models do this and as someone mentions its a safety thing.

 

Thanks, and yeah you're right. The 6 speed automatics (2012+) do this on their own in manual mode only for first gear.

 

yep, first gear is pretty much a launch gear in S mode or to get the trans at the right RPMS for good torque in city driving.
