Amount of oil draining out when doing an oil change

hi all,
I have recently done an oil change on my 2012 TL Sh-Awd this week and noticed something strange.
When I drain the oil, only approximately 3.5 quarts (including the oil from oil filter) came out ... I checked the dipstick before draining and it showed the oil level was in the middle.

This is the second time it happened. I had the car on two ramps and waited until the last drop.
Has anyone else noticed this when doing their own oil change?? It doesn't seem normal to me..
Thanks.

Oil in middle part of dip stick means you're down about .5 quart (most likely consumption since it's common with the 3.7L motor), so that brings you to around 4.0 quarts. The remaining .5 quart is retained on the engine components and/or oil passages/pumps, etc.

Do you change your oil when you hit 0% on the maintenance or every 5k?

3.7 consumes a little bit of oil which is normal but shouldn't consume a ton.

Hopefully you're also using a good synthetic oil.

Thanks for the information. I am aware of the 3.7 motor consumes oil but i believe the limit is 1 quart per 1k miles and it will be considered excessive if it's higher than 1quart.
The car is currently at 50k miles. I hope the oil consumption stay within the limit range until 100k miles.

I always run 5-20w mobil 1 synthetic oil. I had good experience with that on the old Accord.
I change the oil every 4.5k to 5K pending on the weather but no more than that.

I would take it to the dealer and get an oil consumption test done if your worried about it. Some blocks have been known to consume a lot of oil.

Consider yourself or your car is at a good standing point for 5k intervals. Many many 3.7l acura I have seen only drain out to less than half of the jug you have.

And I thought my previous Bmw 335i was a oil drinker, its nothing compare to my tl now and its naturally aspirated.

That's what I am going to do after the airbag recall. It currently sits in the driveway collecting dust at the moment.

Holy $$. Only half of that ??? the engine is prolly done.
The TL is a good car but the oil consumption and 6-speed transmission really damaged the reputation of Acura. Why can't the TL has transmission like LExus Gs-350?? What was Acura thinking??
