AC Problem with 2012 TL, 25k miles
AC Problem with 2012 TL, 25k miles
Just bought the car and notice that if I set "auto" setting in climate control, set for 70 degree, whether driver/passenger or "sync", it cools well short of that target temperature. More like getting 80 Degrees. Un acceptable.
Called the dealer service adviser who told me I had to run the climate system in manual, with the recirculate button engaged if the outside temp was above 70 degrees.
It was 87 degrees here today. I set the car AC temp to "manual" at "LO" and after about 10 minutes I was able to move temp at 63 to achieve what I think was an actual cabin temp of about 70.Note this was under manual control, as opposed to "auto" as I experienced in my Lexus and BMW vehicles.
Any ideas? Do I have an AC that needs be fixed or is it just what is expected?

Post #3 here: https://acurazine.com/forums/problem...-issue-916818/ give it a shot and see what comes up, if anything.
I want to make sure I understand.
When I ran the test, it displayed Auto then 88, Auto then defroster and it repeated that cycle again and again. Does that mean there is a problem(s) ? I didnt see any "segments" Where would those be seen?

Correction: 88, Auto, 88, defroster icon, 88, mode icon, then it would repeat
Segments: Where you see the driver's temperature display, the horizontal and vertical lines form a digitized 88. Did any of these lines that form the 88 illuminate individually? Each line means something.
To make your life a bit easier, download the repair manual from one of the links here: https://acurazine.com/forums/fourth-...manual-899572/
All the codes and debug procedure are on page 21-100, or search the PDF file for "88 and AUTO" to jump to the page fast. I can't copy and paste the entire 2-3 pages here due to copyright.
I guess you are still under warranty so ask the dealer to perform the test themselves.

I do have a warranty, so it looks like I'll be taking it in.
Thanks for you responses.

When "Auto" is displayed, the top segment that makes up the first 8, in 88, is shown with auto.
This translates to a C code, and when appearing with "auto" it indicates a problem with outside temperature circuit. This makes all the sense in the world as my information display is not showing outside temperature.
Thanks for your help!
There you go! Happy I was able to help. Thank the engineers who designed the system's brilliant debugging !
PS. If the dealer gives you sh*t, call Acura Customer Relations and tell them the story with the 88 etc...

Just to close the issue, I took the car to the dealer and they agreed with me that replacing the outside temperature sensor was most obvious fix.
Un fortunately, this didnt work as the new sensor was giving reading of -40 degrees F. The service manager was going to schedule a date in near future to set me up with a loaner and they thought they needed to keep mine for a day or two to figure it out.
By some miracle, it seemed the new sensor calibrated itself, and the next day it was accurately reading outside temp. With that working, the AC's automatic setting was working perfectly!
