2014 TL shift indicator design flaw?

Hi guys,

I'm a new Acurazine member and first-time Acura owner. I can't help noticing the shift indicator next to the shift knob doesn't change color or show any markers. In my previous car, if I shift to D or R, there's a red marker pointing to the corresponding D or R. With TL, I have to look at the dashboard to figure it out.

Is it by design or the indicator lights are defective?

Thanks for your help.

This is a training aid for new drivers.
They want you to look up, not down at the shifter.
I had a similar problem when I was learning to ride a bicycle - I used to watch the pedals go round instead of where I was going.
Got over it after a few crashes though. Now I look down the road when I'm driving.

Thanks guys. Save me a trip to the dealer. It's just when I back out of the driveway, my view of the dashboard is always blocked by the turning steering wheel. That's why I tend to look down when I shift to drive.

I always drive in Sport Manual mode. So I just slide the lever all the way back.

The problem with this habit is that when I drive my old Civic (usually to put gas in it for the daughters), now I tend to put it in D1!

i think if you have been driving a honda for a couple of years you natural know the the right gear to slide it in(pause) when you shift.. and you can always see the dash response
