Cracked Fog Light

Can anyone explain how a replace cracked fog light? The dealer wanted a second mortgage on my house to do it, so I thought I'd try it myself. While I was at it, I thought I'd replace the bulbs to something a bit whiter than the dingy yellow OEM bulbs -- any suggestions?

How bad is the crack? Can you live with it? I have a hairline star crack on the parking light next to the fog caused by a stone. Since it is a hairline and there seems to be no water intrusion, I'm leaving it. I didn't even bother asking the dealer for an estimate as I know it would be an arm and a leg, as you have found out.

Unfortunately, the crack is pretty big -- I think it's just a matter of time before water gets into it....

I'd try checking the internet parts dealers, like Bernardi, Prestige & Acura of Peoria, as they have good pricing. You should be able to pick up a replacement from one of them and install it yourself. That would save you a ton in labor costs, and replacing it isn't all that hard even though you should take the bumper off to get the best access.

I found the part #'s on Bernardi's website, 33900-TK4-A01 for the right and 33950-TK4-A01 for the left. I looked up the parts for a 2010 AWD, but I think they're the same as the 2009 models. Price was about $170 per assembly. Only other thing may be to check your local junkyards.

Good luck...

The exploded parts diagram on Bernardi may also give you an insight on the disassembly/assembly.

My Wifes TSX has the same fog lights and I put a dab of caulking in the crack and it seems okay. Because they are prone to crack, I find it hard to justify replacing it. The whole unit needs to be replaced, as there are no glass part you can buy separately. Make sure you seal it quickly because once the water hit's the light, it will be toast too.

Both of the foglights on my 06 tsx cracked within the first 6 months of ownership. The dealer replaced them free as a one-time goodwill. Too bad your dealer would not do the same thing. I put rockblocker (no longer in business) on them and no more problems (knock-on-wood) after 3+years.

I have an 09 TL SH/AWD, it's just a few screws underneath the foglights, a stone broke the foglight. It wasn't too difficult to replace, but it is expensive. Good luck.

Was just reading everyones issues with their fog lights getting cracked by rocks. I had this happen to my 2011 TL about a month after buying the car (drove my 2003 TL for 6 years before it happened!). I did not replace the foglight, rather I purchased the clear sticky covers from a website called Lamin-X.com. It was $20 with shipping for the pair. You indicate what year, make, model you have to receive the correct size. I did have to cut them a little bit to get them to fit within the foglight assembly. Since its clear you cant even notice they are on and $20 is a lot less than having to buy a whole new foglight.

I did the exact same thing with my daughters 2003 Maxima. The fog light lense just had a crack and but the kit from Lamin-X and it's been good ever since. No future cracking or leak. It pretty my much seals it from moisture.

laimn-x comes in two thicknesses...and even they suggest the thinner of the two, given the potential for heat build-up and melting. Which do you have, Potmilkz?

well mine is starting to fade after the 3 year mark.. its still yellow but a orange yellow.. i got the thick one.. its good i had it since i first bought the car.. i think i put it on the first month i got the car. i knew it was prone to cracking. I recommend everyone get it either clear or yellow.. saves you money down the road..

only thing i recommend when you get it is not to leave the fog lights on while the car is not moving.. this will cause the film to burn on to the glass lens.. always turn off your lights.. the lens and film need air to be cooled and if you are still it just gets hot with the light on and it will melt on to your lens.
