2012 No Rattles .... so far
2012 No Rattles .... so far
I wanted to give everyone an update on my thoughts regarding tightness of construction on my 2012.
First off let me say this: I will trade a car that rattles or squeaks in a New York Second!
I have traded a 2005 Z06, 2008 RX8, 2009 Maxima with less than 5K miles on them. My wife says that I have a disorder because she cant hear them most of the time.
Trust me I hear them to the point where I cant even enjoy driving the car.
Our last Acura was a 2004 TL and if left up to me I would have tradeded it in the first month. Dont get me wrong it was a nice car but I found myself trying to find the squeaks and rattles in the dash, glove compartment and ceiling liner everytime I drove the thing. It was her car so we kept it for 5 years and then traded.
I am proud to report that my 2012 TL is rock solid. In fact so far it is the tightest car I have ever owned. I now have 3K miles on it and not one rattle or squeak to speak of.
yes of course if I hit a pot hole or a big bump or something but that is different than just driving on normal roads with no problem.
I am very happy and very impressed. (so far)
Did I get a good one or are others seeing the same thing on the 2012?

My 2010 is largely that way. At about 15K miles it developed a sunroof rattle. When the roof was open, no problem, but closed it made noise. My dealer said they cleaned and lubed the tracks, and so far, problem solved. I really like the solid, tight feel of the car.
I used to call my 2001 TL and 2003 CL-S the '86 ford bronco to the dealer because of the intense rattles (until he actually brought in his own 1986 Ford Bronco to prove a point and it sounded better than the TL LOL). They were great sports, but could never chase the rattles down.
My 2012 has also been a complete reversal and has been rock solid.
I agree with you on almost all of what you said (and suffer the same disorder), but there was no Z06 in 2005. If there was and you traded it for a rattle you should get a kick in the Jimmy though

unfortunately it will happen. acura honda don t improve a lot those kind of issue. i m like the OP, i can hear every rattles and my wife doesn t.
for example the roof rattle is common since the 2004 model. i have it on my 2005 tl, 2007 tl and my 2012
on the door where on the last model there was a small lock that you can pull to open close the door. there is a buzzing noise. i have it on all my tls even on the 2012 although this mecanism has disapeared now. it s just under my left ear.
my g37 2009 was almost squeak free, just one with thw central brake light cover on the rear glass. i have it on my 2007 tl also.
just today i put some paper between the metalic part and the leather in the handle on the passenger side. it has tightened the whole thing and no more noise. on driver side i could shake the handle and it s rock solid, but on passenger side no

I have a 2012 TL with about 3300 miles on it. So far, no rattles or other noises from the car itself. A few times, I started hearing some noises (rattles, squeaks, creaks, etc.), only to realize it was a bag clasp/zipper or pair of glasses vibrating against some other hard surface due to road vibration. But when I secure the loose personal item, all rattling ceases. Again, so far so good.
so far so good, build date 5/12 about 1000 miles so far
Truthfully I'm impressed with the quality, my '10 CR-V had a few noise issues and also my 09' Accord coupe ended up at the stereo shop getting dynamat installed to quiet down the rear deck that drove me CRAZY

My 2010 was a nightmare for rattles.........mainly from the Sunroof, and roof of the car. Dealer tried numerous times to fix. It was better, but by far not good. Took my chances on a 2012, and this car is solid. No noises anywhere. It's like night and day between my 2010. No squeaks, rattles, or nothing. On a side note, my 2010 G37x is also solid, no rattles since new, and still nothing after 45,000km. Now i can really see which car will get the rattle free trophy!
AudiophileJ, I'm with you on the "I don't do rattles."
That's one of the primary reasons I switched from Domestic's to Imports in 1990. A fellow I had been buying cars from acquired a Honda dealership (previously GM) and that's the first thing he noticed as the dealer principal. No returns for squeaks, rattles or other deficiencies, while the GM dealership would advise customers, "drive it for a week, then come back and we'll do the adjustments." That, and the fact the GM dealership had a small show room and a very large shop. Honda had a large show room, and a very small shop. "It's as big as it needs to be," he remarked.
Mind, I do know the car business was different 22 years ago. I digress.
My my 2012 Elite SH AWD developed 'the' sun roof rattle. First rattle in driving 22 years of Honda products with sun roof's. I was impressed with the tech whom diagnosed and fixed it. Here's how the repair invoice (warranty of course) reads:
"Remove rear seat and all trim panel. Remove headliner and sunroof frame assembly. Use listening tool to check where the noise is coming from. Found out left side body frame on roof is is making a rattle noise. Apply seam seal on the cross beam. Test drive. Noise still there. Repair for rear shelf clicking. Test drive and noise still there. Noise seems to be coming from behind side air bag. Remove side air bag, remove bracket on the body. Put shim inside the bracket. Tighten back up. Road test and noise is gone. Reinstall all interior trim. Test drive again. Okay now."
Appreciated his diligence. Given the firmness of the suspension, the 19" wheels/tires and the poor conditions of the roads around here, I'm impressed the car isn't heated into pieces.
