2010 SH-AWD Steering wheel slop/slack

I just bought my 2010 SH-AWD and have noticed that there is about 1/8th inch slack before there is resistance/response on the steering wheel. I havent had time to take the covers off of the column to see if there is anything noticeable wrong. I am wondering if anyone else has or have had this problem and what they have done to fix it.

I know the car has electric steering, but this feels like excessive wear. So, you prefer the sloppy feel of the steering wheel over a tight and controlled feel? I'll post a vid of the steering wheel and ill probably swing by the dealer to compare with a brand new TL.

I checked my 2010 TL and it's the same. This is normal to me. Don't need to fix any thing here.

Agree. The only time that the steering wheel doesn't move at all, is when the steering lock mechanism is engaged.

Neg1 it's normal. I read reviews about the feel of the steering and didn't quite get it until I drove one. Coming from a BMW 3-series I instantly understood what people meant. It takes some getting used to for sure. But remember you are in a luxury car now. Minimal effort and comfort is the name of the game

in your video you dont have the car running, so the electric steering isnt even on...ofcourse there is slop in there....i checked mine just to confirm, and yes, its doing the same thing as your vid....when the car is running, its on electric and the steering is a little lighter then what i was used to coming from my type s which i thought was a little on the heavy side....

I did not have the car on because I have the same amount of slack all of the time. It does the same thing when I am cruising at 70mph, and its a pain to have to constantly correct the steering wheel b/c of uneven roads, wind, etc.

Slack doesn't cause that problem. The car is very touchy and responsive and is the reason why you have to correct often. It does it on all of ours.

This is normal for all cars. It only become a problem if you have to constantly correct the steering wheel when going dead straight on a perfectly flat and windless road.

I still hate the way it feels and think it is complete garbage. I still need to go to the dealer and compare it with what they have on the lot.

I got friend that works at Acura to look at it and said there was definitely a problem. It ended up being the universal joint and he took care of it. The steering feels much better now, exactly how I would expect it to be.
