Hello everyone ......just got back from the dealership/service department about some clutch issue.
3 days ago as I was getting off my car-I smelled something coming from the front end of my car.Smells like a brake pad or some burning wire.Open the hood to check and the smell was coming from the driver side of the engine,my neighbor came over and said it might be coming from the tranny.
Same thing yesterday and made an appt.for them to check my car and they confirmed that it was the clutch.Car is still under warranty (2010 shawd 6mt with 29980 miles) but they said clutch is not part of it.They told me to bring it back Tuesday so I can talked to the service manager and an estimate for the repair.Anybody had any issue with their tranny/clutch.

doesn't sound good. Are you an experienced manual transmission driver? Do you like to slip the clutch to get some extra revs? Street race? If you haven't abused the clutch, 30k is way too short for a clutch to last. My last car went 150k on its original clutch.

Great questions: do you also ride the clutch a lot? That sucks it isn't covered under warranty. I guess it is because people can easily abuse the clutch or burn it out as an inexperienced manual clutch driver. I would check your warranty booklet just to make sure the dealer's statement is accurate.

I also have a 2004 Dodge Stratus that is a manual and is paid for...been sitting dead in the garage for sometime now (dead battery). I know, not good to let cars sit around. It has 87K miles on it and I bought it brand new and it is still on the original clutch. I had it checked out by the dealer awhile back, and he said the clutch is on its way out the door. An Acura builds better clutches so <30K on a clutch is way too soon.

Are you the original owner or did someone else own the vehicle before you? If it is the latter, it might be their fault.

No Issues with my 2010 clutch either. However, my transmission was fully rebuilt last month under warranty (see my other posts with pics included)

been driving manuals for the past 30 yrs .Never abused this car. I'm one of those who park way out and washes my own car as much as posssible. I bought this car brand new and plan to keep it till the next TL (5G ?).Like you never had problems with any manuals, never experienced having the clutch replaced/repaired in any of my past cars.

TL's are one of the hardest cars to learn.

Have you been the sole owner or did you buy it CPO or through private market?

Silkysmooth I also have a 2010 MT and it is approaching the end of its warranty. Why did you have to get your entire transmission rebuilt?

Tranny was grinding when going into 2nd, and often 3rd. Eventually it wouldn't go into 1st anymore.

Dealer opened it up and replaced 1-2, 3-4 synchro sets plus shift forks. The synchros were screwed.

See my post here with pics. https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-problems-fixes-297/so-my-manual-transmission-broke-plus-loaner-car-accident-870977/

Being a honda product it should last MUCH longer than that. I have 200k+ on the clutch in my tl with a good 25% of starts being done in 2nd gear and many lapping days.

^^ Agreed. We have put hundreds of thousands of miles on Honda/Acura clutches and never had to replace one.
