'09 TL SH-AWD will not to go into ACC/ON mode

I've got an easy one for someone. We were pulling out of a parking lot and noticed the Nav/Audio display was black/completely off. Stopped, turned off the engine and tried to restart the car thinking the display issue might go away. Push button did not result in normal ACC mode with the first button push. And of course, nothing with a second push. No dash lights or any other normal ACC position things happening. What we have done: Checked battery and battery connections - all good. Checked all fuses under hood, under dash on driver's side and passenger side. Looked at the starting system wiring diagram and checked all fuses (again) and relays that are shown as part of that system. Removed the Push Start button and checked for power and ground on the connector. Tested the push button itself for correct operation. That was all good.

Does this issue ring a bell with anyone?

Towed the car to my house and there it sits in the garage.

I got a service/troubleshooting PDF a while ago, before this issue, and I have found a troubleshooting procedure specifically for this issue. Unfortunately, very early on in the process, HDS is required. I have found that HDS/HMI setups can be purchased on eBay, mostly. Anybody have experience with those systems and can advise whether or not it would be helpful to purchase one?

Thanks a lot for checking this...we've gotten a lot of good info in the past on various issues and are grateful for the shared wisdom. This is my first post.

check battery voltage and see if it's good.

Did you try jumpstarting the car?

If the car runs, is it charging or what was the voltage while running?

You can find a pdf of the service manual online and it will help you with a lot of useful information. It could be a bad connection from alternator to fusebox or a host of things.

Start with making sure the battery is good and then follow the voltage with a multi-meter or test light. Does it make it to the fusebox?

Battery measures fine and was checked at O'Reilly's. Sorry - I should have clarified that since it won't go to 'ON" mode (one button push), it would also not even try to start (another push). It made no sense to me at the time to try to jump start it in that case, but we did try anyway with no response at all (no starter solenoid clicking, no engine turning over).

I should mention that the things that normally work without being in ACC/ON MODE do work - brake lights, hazard lights, dome lights, power seats, etc.

Voltage makes it to the under hood fuse box and to the passenger and driver side fuse box locations.

I mentioned that I have a PDF (6000+ pages) that includes a good troubleshooting procedure for this specific condition ('Cannot Select ON Mode With Keyless Access or With The Remote in The Remote Slot'). Having a Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) scanner tool enters into the troubleshooting very early on, so that's why I'm asking if anyone has any experience with HDS/HMI equipment/software kits sold on eBay. Here's an example: Honda HDS HMI Diagnostics

I see that link to the HDS/HMI tool doesn't work. If you want to see it, just go to eBay and search. A bunch of them will come up.

One more link try: HDS HMI Honda Diagnostic Tool

Anyone? Anything?

I'll add, just to further confuse things, that the headlights don't work (should even if not in ON MODE) except for the left one that works only if you pull on the blinker stalk to momentarily flash it.

Also, the key fob doesn't unlock/lock doors.

Does anyone have experience with the HDS/HIM I linked to above?

Thanks.

I'm no mechanic, but maybe the button could be malfunctioning, since other items that require ACC mode work. Pull the button out and check?.

Thanks for the reply. I have already taken the start button off and tested it for proper operation. Also checked the push button connector for proper signals (GND and 12v). When the button is depressed, there is a click in the steering column area but that's the only thing that happens. Tried moving/wiggling the wheel when depressing the button (part of the troubleshooting procedure) to see if the lock releases, but no go.

As far as I know, there aren't any items that require ACC/ON MODE that are working. I'm pretty much dead in the water until I get the HDS/HIM tool which will hopefully allow me to follow a troubleshooting procedure for the no ON MODE condition. I can't help but think it's something simple, but I don't know what it is.
