This is NYC....
was rollin to pick up my GF when i came across this by E. 176st next to the sheridan.... all i gotta say is wow if u cant afford a car dont sign the contract!! interior is done nuttin but metal didnt take pics of it cuz iono if the area was hott with the cops didnt wanna b in the scene... engine looks intact tho...

well its easy... dude didnt wanna keep payin for the car so instead of havin the repo man pay him a visit and keepin his credit clean... hey lets do a insurance job, and thats wat he did... dats the only thing that comes up in my head
Or it could've been stolen and they just trashed it. Stuff liek this happens all the time in NYC. I see stolen cars abandoned after being stripped/broken into/ or just joy rided in.
I'm not sure that the owner did it since the trunk/hood clearly look broken into. Unless the FD did that for some reason. Also I'm not sure why the donut spare would be on it with the stock 17" rim completely out of sight.

the owner deff set it on fire and beat it up a little to make it look like it was stolen because he probably could not afford it anymore.. there's no reason to rip off the grill or damage the trunk like that just to get in the trunk or in the engine because all that opens from the inside.. he probably took the plates off to return them to the dmv lol
Fire department has to pop the trunk to make sure no one is inside. I've seen it done before and asked why. Smash all the windows too, unless the fire made them burst.
Definitely insurance fraud, if it were stolen, the headlights would have been off as well as the rims, and tail lights, at a minimum.
