X pipe or J pipe?
you mean besides how one looks like an "x" and the other like a "J"? lol
i dont think we can use x pipes in our exhausts. x pipes are used for engines that are mounted lengthwise in the engine bay. their exhausts channel down the car parallel to the frame. an x pipe joins these pipes to even out the flow.
our tl v6's are mounted parallel to the front of the car. so the exhaust is collected into a single pipe that runs down the length of the car.

found both pics off google. the front of both cars is on the right side. they shouldn't need any more explanation than that... hahaha

You need to some way to balance exhaust pressure in the system.
X-pipe does it by "joining" the two out-flow paths. J-Pipe does it by bring two out-flows into one collector pipe (which may re-split later).

Its not too bad, that would be unneeded weight. They wouldnt have the performance aspect in mind if they did that. Someone mentioned it before but true duels are better for the big boys not so much our cars
the J pipe is what we use to open up the backside. Basically the way the engine is setup (side to side and not front to back) the j pipe brings the exhaust ports into one pipe going back. It is also bigger allowing more air to pass through. The design was created to have performance in mind allowing it to give the best ains possible. The X pipe and H pipe do the same thing but for different engines and they have different end results in performance.

I dont know what effects it has by itself if any really. But pair it up with the whole setup and the exhaust sounds good. Take a look at any sound clip on here and you can see with a full system it has a good throaty tone. I am not sure of numbers because no one that I have seen has actually put their car on a dyno and tested it out.
