Spark Plugs - Looking for Hotter

NGK and Honda have always meshed well. It looks like the NGK Iridium IX plugs would be what I am looking for to get a hotter spark @ WOT.

The part number that seems most likely to work is #2669. Has anyone bought these yet?

I think it would help, I tried the hotter plugs from NGK in my 2G TL with all Comptech mods and it helped.

Have you pulled data or just going by intuition? Never really seen a reason to go that route unless forced induction is involved.

quite the contrary actually; you'd want to run colder plugs with boost/nitrous applications to reduce the detonation.

Lots of air = hotter chamber. Colder plug for better spark, otherwise the heat from the plug itself can ignite the fuel and cause it to detonate.

Hotter plugs = N/A application where you need to ignite the fuel faster and keep the air pumping in.

Sorry, what I meant was I've never see a reason to change the temperature on plugs unless you've gone forced induction. That's not to say a n/a motor wouldn't benefit from it, but for a vehicle like ours with bolt on modifications, never really seen anyone prove it one way or the other.

Previous thread. Air fuel readings from dash command show that A/F is consistently mega-rich at WOT.

Cool, curious to see the effect. If you'd like to compare your dash results, here's my a/f from my dyno bone stock. This shows 2nd and 3rd gear, 3rd being the leaner of the two. Note: the RPMs we let off before complete redline

Was that on a J37 AWD TL?

190hp? CL? That is around 60% hp of a 4G AWD.

It's my 2009 TL SH-AWD. Yes, this is correct horsepower. It had 850 miles on the motor, and done in late 2008. It was done on a AWD dyno. Factor in the drivetrain loss, it is 100% accurate.

Seems awfully low. I'd figure 240-250 at the tires minimum. Your numbers would indicate more than a 30% drivetrain power loss, which I suspect is the SH-AWD not dealing with the dyno or the dyno not dealing with the SH-AWD. My 03-CLS6M was putting 215 down stock on the J32A2 @ 260hp.

Everyone's an expert, and no one reads. Like I said, we never took it to redline, the power kept increasing, this type of dyno reads lower than other dynos, and there is more drivetrain loss seen on an AWD vehicle. Factor all that in, and no, it's not all that low for what an AWD Acura typically runs on a machine. Not sure how comparing a FWD CL has anything to do with it, but you're the expert, not I.

Not knocking the dyno or anything, it's just the math doesn't line up with expectations. I think the AWD logic on the SH-AWD computer makes it impossible to get an accurate dyno.

The computer for sure doesn't like it, fights it the whole way. Took about 20 pulls to get a clean run. TOV disconnects the propeller shaft to only dyno on 2 wheels. Madness
