Intake question
Intake question
Hello everyone,
Have a question.. Will a K&N typhoon model number 69-1210TS fit the 2011 Acura tl 3.7? It says it'll fit the 2010 but for some reason it doesn't show of it'll work for the 2011. I would think it would fit but wanted to get a correct answer. Thanks in advance.

Should sound the same as a Takeda, they are both short air intakes. They sound really good; you won't be disappointed.
I run a CT icebox now but honestly can't tell the difference in HP....which is normal since it takes about 30-40 HP to "feel" in a 4,000 lb car.

Actually the 3.5 and 3.7 TL are different. There are different throttle bodies. So they aren't interchangeable unless K&N supplies two size couplers like TAKEDA does.
Well it's just a tube...like Excelerate said it's all a matter of whether or not they supply the right size adapters since the throttle bodies are different sizes. My Takeda intake came with a couple different adapters since the intake itself is only 1 size.

^they are correct. The intake is just a tube. Throttle bodies are different sizes. Check with K&N to see if they provide both couplers/adapters in the box. Otherwise, you can always find one separately.
Seriously you didn't see any difference? the ice box air intake it says in the spec you gain more hp then the k&n but why I don't know! and its almost the double of the price.

I swapped out only because I wanted a real CAI and not a HAI.
Lol didnt really see a difference or feel for that matter lol. After doing the install I cant see where the big gains are supposed to come from. I will say that the factory one not only supplies the air box but the tubethat requires the battery box to be removed actually supplies cool air to the engine ccompartment
I can't tell you if I felt a difference from a stand still, as I do not floor my car often from a dead stop. However, during passing situations, I can definitely tell a difference in power. Like when I am going 55mph and I want to make a pass, before, I would need to drop down 2 gears (sportshift). Now, I only need to drop down one gear and it would go strong. The other good thing is the CT icebox does not add much noise, if any at all. My car does not need any more noise as sometimes I still find my exhaust noise unbearable especially when I have 2+ people in the car.

The factory tubing seemed to pull air from underneath the front hood of the car around the battery, routed the air underneath the battery through a resonator looking box, then routed the air back out through a tube going towards the driver side wheel well, then up through the factory intake housing.
Whereas the CT intake pulls air directly from around the drivers side wheel in between the wheel well and the front bumper.
If you're really looking for a comparison, it would be more similar to getting any short ram intake, then sealing the filter element in a housing that pulls air from the bottom of the car.
Well I got the intake today, before I open it, I want to know if it'll even fit. Don't want to open the box, and then find out it won't fit. Thanks
Btw it's a k&n SRI model 69-1210ts. Says it fits the 2010 3.7, so I got it for my 2011 thinking it would fit.

Oh by the way, look inside the box to see if it comes with the 2 adapters or just 1. Worse case scenario, you go to your local hardware store or autoparts store and buy the coupler that would fit between the tube and the throttle body.
There really isn't anything different between the 2011 and 2010 so you should be good.
That's exactly what I did, the adapter (reducer) that came with the SRI was probably for the 3.5L throttle body because it didn't fit on my 3.7L(¼'' to ½'' too small I would say so)....I found something that fits perfectly!
I just had a SRI put in and now everytime I accelerate, I hear a whistle type noise with the windows open. When windows are closed, I hear nothing. Noise increases with speed. Anyone know what it can be?
