Yup. A lot of their products are released in very limited quantities and it's not uncommon for first time buyers to make a profit or break even when reselling the used item. Which has a lot to say because just about everything you buy used his highly discounted.

I just got a 09 TL and I said I wouldn't mod it and keep it completely stock but I might get this intake if and when it comes out.

I sent CTE an email...

If there was any confusion, this is being developed for the SH-AWD models in mind. With the intake part #s being different, FWD owners will just have to cross their fingers that it fits as well with little to no modification.

Also, it sounds as though this WILL happen as he stated they are too invested to turn back now. The good news is it is only a matter of time.

Anyway, here is the full response:

Letme see if I can answer a couple of you questions. We have had a lot ofissues getting this particular intake ready for production.

Wehave the production version ready to do check final fitment andtake installation pictures for the instructions. I don't have a better ETAfor release date but we are trying to get this done as soon as possible, weknow there are people who have been waiting a long time for this to come outand we appreciate the patience. I am hesitant to speculate about anotherrelease date since we have missed our previous dates a few times. All I can sayis that we are going to produce the intake (at least a few of themdepending upon demand), we have way too much invested at this point to turnback now, and the intake actually works and makes great power for asimple bolt on part.

Wedon't expect this intake to be a huge seller for us, there just aren't thatmany TL's being sold, and we only get a small percentage of the TL ownersthat are interested in upgrading parts. Just like you and many of the people onAcurazine, we love the TL's, and we saw some potential in the intake to makesome decent power and sure enough we found 15+ WHP & 13+ lb./ft. of torquewith our intake design. The problem is that the design that made abunch of power, has been difficult to reproduce efficiently.

Atthe moment it doesn't appear that the Type-S intake will fit on the non Type-STL, we haven't had a non Type-S TL in the shop yet to check, but the stockintakes use different part numbers which is a good sign that they aren't thesame. If the intake happens to fit with little of no modification, we willcertainly make it available for as many models as possible.

Ifyou have any other questions feel free to call or e-mail us anytime.

Thanks,

ChrisDwyer

Well I'm a definite buyer if it is CARB certified for our make and model and the pricing we can get is at or below $350.

Either this guy doesn't know what hes talking about.. or he doesn't know what hes talking about

2009 TL base (FWD) 17244-RK1-S00 CASE SET, AIR CLEANER
17211-RK1-A00 COVER, AIR CLEANER
2009 TL shawd (AWD) 17244-RK1-S00 CASE SET, AIR CLEANER
17211-RK2-A00 COVER, AIR CLEANER

Like I've told them before the only real difference between the FWD TL and the AWD TL is the tubing that connects from the intake manifold to the intake box.
Just like how the Takeda short ram had two different couplers. The intake works for both 3.5L and 3.7L TL's. I don't see how CT-E can't make another coupler for the 3.5L cause even Takeda was able to do it

Hope you're right eazy, sounds like it should be pretty easy and since it sounds like they put a lot of work, research, and time, it would be better for them to increase the number of potential sales to include those with FWD like myself and potmilkz.

In fact, I might send them another response regarding what you said eazy. Gotta try to make a push to ensure this comes compatible for us FWD'ers.

Trust me I'm FWD too so I feel you and potmilkz concerns. I already emailed them with the same response waiting to see what they say

I'm sure we could get an adapter made for it to fit the FWD 3.5L model. So don't worry too much about the rest.

4G TL intake

We just wanted to chime in here and let you know why we are hesitant to say our new intake will fit the FWD. According to our sources, these are the factory part numbers for the components replaced in our intake system.

AWD -- (FWD)

LID - 17211-RK2-A00 -(LID - 17211-RK1-A00 (different))
BASE - 17244-RK1-S00 - (BASE - 17244-RK1-S00 (same))
TUBE - 17228-RK2-A00 - (TUBE - 17228-R70-A01 (different))

As you can see there are 2 different part numbers between the AWD model and the FWD model. We are not saying that the intake won't work but we can't guarantee it until we have a chance to test fit one and put it on a dyno to make sure the differing inlet sizes won't cause issues with the tuning. One of the keys to us making decent power with this intake is the proper sizing and shape of the inlet tube from the box to the throttle body. Small changes in size can cause problematic readings from.the airflow sensor.

As soon as we get a chance to test fit the intake on a FWD model we will let everyone know if it will fit on both models. We would love to make this available to FWD customers as well, we just need to make sure that you won't have any issues after installation.

We have been busy with a few other projects lately but we are really close to wrapping up this intake project and should have something available in the next couple of weeks. We will be sure to post on here as soon as we have a date and retail price set....please be aware that it will certainly cost more than $400.

wow...$400+ for an intake, this thing better put down some REAL gains instead of these bunk dyno sheets other intake manufactures claim.

Take a look at the 09+ TSX intake.

http://www.ct-engineering.com/Produc...7/Default.aspx

It should give you a reference for pricing and what's included. Although it's a different motor and setup you'll get an idea. Also with the gains they're claiming the intake will be worth the cost.

how exactly does this intake get us 16 whp?

if a takeda.. which is just a free flowing filter makes essentially ZERO gains... how is the icebox able to do such a better job than OEM?

from the dyno chart they posted.. it looks like it makes gains all through the powerband.. NOT just at the very top... is our OEM intake THIS restrictive???

i wish it was cheaper.. $550 seems expensive for a filter and plastic piping... but if it really makes 16 hp and 13 lbs/torque... one would think you would actually FEEL that..and be worth it.

this mod PLUS a jpipe/exhaust ... you'd think you could get the TL up to 330-340 hp?

How much is a catback (XLR8, ATLP, Megan, CT-E)? What kind of gains do they provide? Exactly. When you start calculating hp/$, ice box is up there with PCD and catless jpipe.

Cali is very strict on modifications to your vehicle, they must meet the "CARB" standard or else you will fail inspection, or will be swapping the airbox out before inspection each time.

Most private shop inspection states like PA will let almost anything pass, as long as the car is safe to drive.

RB stands for California Air Resources Board, basically any automotive part that meets their standards on emissions can be used in vehicles equipped with "California Emissions". Since the levels of emissions from vehicle exhaust is the strictest in California, any part that meets the CARB standard is 50 state legal. It is important for after market modifications such as intake manifolds and catalytic converters to meet the required emissions allowance specified by the state.

Exempted parts are add-on or modified parts that have undergone an ARB engineering evaluation. If the part or modification is shown to not increase vehicle emissions, it is granted an exemption to emission control system anti-tampering laws. This exemption is called an Executive Order (EO) and allows the modification to be installed on specific emission controlled vehicles. Every Executive Order part or modification has an assigned number that can be verified by Smog Check stations, BAR Referee stations, or by the ARB.
