Wha? A CAI for the 4G? Anyone know if this really fits? Or just a typo on the Excelerate site?

That's the link of the intake for the 4G I believe.
As the intake in the picture, it looks like the sizes will fit the 4G TL....

It said on the K&N site, it'll gain 10.23HP, but the Takeda Intake can gain 14HP isn't it??

Yea I believe the Takeda SRI is +14/+14. I'd rather get that then. I was always skeptical about CAI's and the chances of it sucking up water. It costs more too. Probably just cause its K&N

any news for this? i prefer a CAI, a lot of my friends roll with CAI even in winter, never had a problem sucking up water, do you know how deep of a puddle you have to drive through to have it suck it up lol.

more info excelerate, please!

can't find this on the k&n website for our cars, and that pic doesn't look like a CAI, still short ram

I don't think winter has anything to do with sucking up water. If anything winter is best suited for CAI since the air is colder. Correct me if I'm wrong but running over a puddle isn't the only way your CAI to suck up water. Worse case scenario hydrolock. My

"I used to run CAI on all of my cars... untill i got smart and did a little research..
go to Radio shack and buy a very cheap $10.00 digital thermometer with remote sensor.
Tape the sensor onto your air filter with the Short ram intake. set the themometer inside the car and drive the car for a few miles. Notice the min and max temps. at the filter.
Now install your high dollar CAI and do the same, you will see that once you are up to about 15 miles an hour... the temp at the filter is the same regaurdless of where the filter is.
Reason... Once the car is moving at about 15 miles per hour, the air passing under the car creates a vacume which pulls all of the hot air out of the engine compartment and pulls fresh cold air in behind it. Thus giving the filter the same cold air that it would see if it was located elsewhere.
Final conclusion...
CAI's look nice, but that's about it. They only have a benefit if you are traveling less than about 15 or 20 miles an hour.
And as for hydrolock... it takes less than a Tablespoon to hydrolock a 4G63....
Does this look good to any of you guys??... (see pic)"

After asking my mechanics about this, I believe this is just a short ram. Now that leaves me with a decision to make. Known brand K&N or Takeda?

Lots of good feedback on the Takeda intakes. Also, Takeda is a division of aFe, which has been around since 1999 I believe.

Takeda is a very well known brand, they make quality parts.

I haven't seen one negative feedback on the takeda intake. I would grab it.

Takeda intake is worth it for the sound alone.

I have no opinion on these; I tend to run stock simply because I drive my cars really really hard and need the warranty support. And even though I've owned my TL SH-AWD 6MT since early November, I've never looked under it. But all my Audis (going back 14 years and three cars) had large under-car pans that certainly would have prevented any air being sucked up from below. Perfectly smooth underneath.

If the tester was doing this with an older car, or a cheaper car, that doesn't include the under-pan, I believe the results. And my experience with the TL is that they really cheaped out in some stupid places (no tilt-adjustable head restraints, no folding rear seats, no flat trunk floor in the AWD, no flocking in even the sunglass cubby, no air deflector in the sun/moonroof...), so maybe they cheaped out under the car too. But from just the post, we don't have enough data.

the underneath of the car has aerodynamic plastics covering most of the bottom. They were designed specifically for aerodynamic purposes..... acording to Acura.

By the way, if the CAI that K&N is offering is what is pictured above you would have to be submerged hood high in water to suck any water into your intake. The intake shown is not the typical CAI that places the filter lower into the bumper. The K&N one looks very similar to that made by TAKEDA.

Yeah then its not really a CAI if it's positioned the same as a SRI. You'll be pulling the same air from the same place a Takeda SRI would. And it cost more the last time I checked for a K&N

Its not a traditional CAI, but it is a CAI in the fact that it is seperated by the heat sheilds from the hot air in the engine bay and draws air from the fender. So instead of Cold Air Intake its more like Cooler Air Intake.
