Aftermarket BBKs (Big Brake Kits)
The usual suspects (Brembo, Stoptech, AP Racing, Performance Friction) don't appear to have offerings yet - anyone know who's making BBKs for the 4G TL?

Rotora, is a huge company, and seems to have made a BBK for quite a large selection of Acuras... but Stoptech, seems to be an easier company to sway towards starting R&D for a product...
When the time comes for me to get new rotors & pads (40k+) I may consider upgrading... although, i dont have the best of luck with BBKs.... sigh...

It's a matter of want for the BBKs.

Long story short.. i had an 06 TL, terrible brake problems (M/C replaced when car was 4 days old) then replaced 2 more times within 30 days of ownership .... brakes & pads were worn out @ 20K
I opted to install a Rotora BBK instead of dealing with crappy 5AT brakes... while all along, my car had a defective VSA modulator (there was a TSB issued for it) that was pumping air into the lines, causing my M/C seal to keep breaking
I had the BBK installed for about ....36 hours, when the brakes locked up (during aggressive driving, i wont lie...) car went into a concrete divider head on

I am a bullet proof tiger
This is good news! I will be replacing my rotors soon, as I can no longer stand the rust. The calipers are ugly as well, hopefully we have a few options by year end.

I remeber i called Brembo a few months back to see if they were interested in making a BBK for the 09+ Tl. They told me that in order to start development they needed at least six or eight people who were interested in buying one. Im not sure if this is still possible or not but maybe someone should give it a go.

Seeeeing it's been a couple of months since anyone has posted to this, it would appear that there is limited interest in a 4g TL bbk at this time. But I will ask anyhow...
Anyone going for BBk want to get a group of 8+ together so we can get an upgrade on the market????

More evidence RE brakes:

"The other surprise was how spectacularly undersize the Acura's brakes are. Even on a cool, rainy morning, one lap of BeaveRun was sufficient to fry the brakes completely. Each timed lap was completed only after a lengthy cool-down period and a call to our mothers saying we made it through alive."

OK, Let's start a BBK want/need list here. If it should have it's own thread please let me know as I'm a newbie.

Ducting
In addition, I had posted this link to Brake Ducting on another thread but it applies here as well. This is for an S-2000 and looks like it would cost less than $100 and ½ day of labor in your garage. Why Acura placed vents to nowhere in the grill of the SH-AWD, is anyone’s guess. But, they ARE needed!

"The manual transmission also comes with stiffer engine and transmission bushings, heavy-duty front driveshaft’s, and stronger CV joints."
I couldn't find anything related to brake changes. The industry commonly shaves costs on parts like brakes and suspension components that most of us would be clueless about. I replaced my Speed6 struts after 30k because Mazda didn’t consider drivers like me would notice the difference. and Don’t get me started on Dorf Motorcrap.

^ What do you mean "drivers like me?" Are you tracking the car? That is the only reason I could think why you would want to install the brake ducts like on the s2k.
I agree these brakes are not near strong enough to stop you from 100mph+ to 0 in a reasonable distance, but most of that is due to the weight of the car, the brakes are bigger than the 3G Brembo's were.

With that said, I do however require that the car perform above and beyond grocery getter duties. Acura placed vents in the grill & I would like to plumb them to the disc in order to reduce fade. With the little effort and cost involved, for me, it’s worth it.

The SH-AWD already has front brake cooling ducts in the bumper.

It might take some time for people to consider the BBK option as viable. My pads have plenty left (considering it was one of the first 1000 SH-AWD built, it would appear the binders are good for several years) However, the newness is well worn off of my ride and I'm looking to upgrade. How much interest is generated, is yet to be determined.

Hey - question for those here that know more about this than myself. What is it about the TL brakes that are so poor. Would it be as simple as better brake pads? or rotors? Obviously it seems having larger brakes are better, but is there something else that could be done?

The argument for a better system on the SH-AWD 6 speed is that the few who choose this option will be more spirited drivers and want a bigger brake set-up up front. A big brake kit offers improvement in stops by offering larger diameter rotors (better cooling), bigger calipers with more pistons and better pads (more grip), braided-stainless-steel encased lines (no fluid expansion), and high temperature fluids (no boiling). This set up gives the front brakes improved, fade resistant stopping power beyond factory capabilities. If you don’t drive your car hard, save your money as BBK’s can run from $1,500-$5,000.
