I have 2012 TL Tech and I am wondering if Acura is going to give us a software update so we can receive and send SMS like the new Accord and Civic??

Check for a "car home" app of sorts. Basically opens up a page with large, easy access buttons to apps such as messaging and navigation. The one which comes with Samsung phones does have TTS built in, as far as I'm aware.

I am hoping to revive this thread in regards to receiving SMS texts via the car system while driving. I have a 2012 TL Tech and have paired it to the Handsfreelink. Calling and the phonebook is accessible. Is there something missing, or do these models of TL not have the ability to read and/or display SMS messages from my phone?

The best you can get is perhaps siri or google assistant to read and type out SMS for you. but because the car runs on an older version of AVRCP (The Bluetooth protocol) there is a noticeable lag between you using the activation phrase (ie hey google\hey siri) and the response chime and 9 times out of ten it ends up being more of a hassle than it is worth. That is not to say that I have not used it, even if it was frustrating.
Sorry to not have better news!
