Weird stereo problems

2012 TL Base. Sometimes the radio turns on, sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, I usually have to turn the car off and on again before it will work. Sometimes if I hold the button down, it'll turn on eventually. Or turn on and off really fast. And the kicker: sometimes when it's on, it won't turn off, and the volume adjustments on the steering wheel won't work either. (Which makes me think it's not as simple as a dodgy power/volume knob.)

Is this something that people have experienced, and is there any kind of known fix? Is it as simple as finding a non-NAV head unit on eBay and swapping it in? (Security codes notwithstanding.)

Check your battery and alternator. Weird things happen when improper or inadequate voltages are available.

Thanks. Will have to dig around for my voltmeter.

The battery is original to the car, so it might just be time.

Welp, I used it for a couple short trips yesterday, and today it was @12.42 volts. Unless there's something draining the battery, sounds like I need a new one.

Speaking of which, is there a way to check load on a battery while the car is sitting/off? I have a multimeter, but only really know how to check voltages and test continuity - dunno what most of the other buttons do.

An auto parts store should have a battery load tester, but being 6 years old and sitting at 12.4, I would just save yourself the hassle and replace it. No guarantee this will fix your stereo issue, but you're due for a new one anyhow.
