Cool Viper on a 2012 TL w/Tech

I have a Viper Alarm - 5102. It has the color LCD screen, tilt sensor and the proximity sensor. I want to install it in my TL but I dont know how its going to act with the smart key.

Has anyone out there done this before?

I like not have to take my keys out of my pocket ever. I like how the door unlock as you grab the door handle. You think you will still retain the same function after installing the Viper?

I had the monochrome LCD model on my 09, but I had the security system model (5901), with the security system active, the proximity door handles wouldnt not bypass the aftermarket alarm. Functionality wise (unlocking) worked fine, it just would set off the alarm every time I didnt hit "unlock" on the viper.

When I put another Viper in my '11 I dont think I'm going to get a security system, just a remote start unit.

Never understood car alarms. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the technology behind it and all....but these aren't economy class cars where you can just jump around the keyed ignition or break the steering column shackle loose.

What benefit do you see, aside from remote start/monitoring to installing these that justifies the cost? Sincerely curious - maybe I'm just not seeing something.

Good question as I wonder that too. The car has a built-in security system. I picked up the OEM remote start cuz I didn't want issues like that having to carry yet another romote all the time. My remote start has a seperate remote but iI don't take it with me all the time

this is one of the reasons why i didn't opt to buy a remote start... well since i found out that i had to carry a separate key for it.. as if my keys are bulky enough lol

It's so worth it to go out to my car after work and the steering wheel is cool, cold air rushes out when I open the door.. the second key fob is a non-issue to me, really

They are manufactured for the BMW drivers who did not order the $400 alarm option on their 335.

If I could leave both of my Acura smart keys at home and be able to use my Viper 5902 as if it were one of them, then i'll do it.

dont see the purpose of remote starting your car, then when you get to the car, have to shut the car down just to start it up again.

to me, its a waste of 500 bux... maybe i dont have 2012 model but seems like a bad investment.

our cars dont need to warm up anyways.. i dont think any car made after 2006 needs too lol.

Why is this hard to understand? When the car is remote started all you have to do Is insert the key and press on the brakes. That's it. Now on the push button model it's probably different. But the point is that once it's on it's on. The car doesn't turn off after you remote start it. That's not the way it works. Why would I want to remote start it when I technically don't need to "warm it up" , because you can have the heat on and the windows in defrost while you put your jacket on and take the snow of the car. In the summer time you can have the ac on at a certain temp and vet into a nice cold cabin rather than a hot sauna . The viper 5102 remote start has many functions. You can program the car anyway you want. It even gives you the current cabin temp before deciding on remote starting it. It also has a built in shock sensor for asshole that want to fuck with it.

I get the remote start thing; it's the alarm piece I don't understand, but I do park in my own garage every night. If I were in a more urban area / parked outside, I could understand a more aggressive alarm - though I had nice cars when I did the apartment thing, and never had a problem with factory honda/acura alarms being adequate.

I was really surprised during the MMC not to see the remote start module become a single keyfob option. Seriously, the circuitry to do this and do it securely is pennies on the dollar.

Unfortunately I don't have a garage and I have to park it outside. Yes Honda does have an awesome immobilizer system but I would love to catch the person in the act.

If this Viper 5102 can do what I want then I'll set it to silent. So when it goes off i am alerted and I get to catch them in the act.

Face blood on the knuckles early in the AM feels good. That's just me. An alarm is suppose to alert you when would be thieves try to do something to your car. On top of that it comes with a lot of cool features. Remote start with pre-programed settings, tilt sensor, shock sensor and of course the proximity sensor. I currently have this alarm setup but not installed yet. Why? Because I don't know if its going to replace my smart key. Smart-ass!
