valentine 1 or escort 9500xi
i'm about to get a V1 but wanted to know what you all might have for radar detectors? since i'd like to have my radar somewhat hidden i wanted to hardwire, but i'm not car saavy and car/electronic places want $80 to hardwire. i also ran across the site www.stealthcords.com and seeing if anyone purchased and used their cord and connect it to the 4G TL AWD's rearview mirror? any input would be great.

I have the passport 9500XI. Hard wiring took about 30 minutes Best buys sells the kit for 29.95 very easy install I just tucked the wires under the headliner and down the drivers side window under the trim. to the fuse box ran the mute button next to the nav/radio. it sticks out of a crack on the right side of of the knee panel.

I will post pictures after this weekend. I am including a toggle switch to sit beside the VSA button to kill the power when driving thru Virginia.
I just need to figure out how to remove the a-pillar cover and my buddy will show me on thursday. I got where I am going to tie into the fuse box covered.

pics probaly won't be up this weekend as I am having trouble getting my hands on a copy of the documentation on removing the a-pillar cover. I am 90% sure that they are one use only clips that hold it in place and when I pry it off, if I don't replace the clips then it will rattle like crazy.

you don't really need to take it off...I will upload some pictures this afternoon.

Step 1: get an appropriate length of RJ11 cable. We are routing from the passenger visor to either the fuse box on the pax side or to the fuse box on the driver's side. OR to the cigarette lighters. You can also use the blend mount if you want to mount it to the RV mirror.
Step 2: Test the cable with your RD.
Step 3: Flip down the visor, feed end of cable over top of visor toward the windshield
Step 4: lay remaining cable between the a-pillar and windshield gap. Use a thin credit card or other card to push the cable into the gap.
Step 5: Push cable into trim between pillar and dashboard. Feed into trim gap on door.
Step 6: EITHER Tap into a temp fuse on the fusebox using a fused add-a-circuit if that's what you want OR continue for cigarette lighter adaptor (I am still going off of cigarette lighter while I work on the laser install) so I continue. Either way you will need to continue routing a cable for your remote display.
Step 7: Continue cable along trim gap, there is a nice carpet gap and then the gap of the console to wrap all the way around the center console to the driver's side if you so choose. Then connect to remote/cigarette lighter.
Step 8: drive responsibly. The install is minimally invasive and it accomplishes 95% of what you would by taking apart all your trim.

So to answer the thread question... V1 or Escort Passport, any thoughts?? They both have great reviews but for some reason I like the escort better. I think it has a better design and overall more features. The real question is which one works best??

I like the V1 for in-car. Has about the top sensitivity for in-car detectors, and the arrows can be super handy in determining where the police are, especially if they are shooting on the move in your direction of traffic.
You can always buy both, figure out which you like better, and return the other in the 30 day grace period.
Bumper mounting, the new 9500 CI seems to really have some strong sensitivity, and it can be run in tandem with the V1 on the visor since they are separated enough.
Finally, your protection isn't complete unless you get some sort of laser protection. Any visor mounted detector will have trouble picking up laser if they are aiming for your plate/headlight. If the laser does alert...it is too late...time to pull over. Laser interceptor seems to be the top player in the laser jamming market.

I have a friend that has a V1. That thing is so sensitive it's going off all the time. He has turned into a nervous wreck and I have to think that if he tries to brain-filter out some of that racket he's going to miss the one alert that nails him. What kind of driving pleasure is that?? The little arrows are cool, tho.
I don't have a 9500, but I do have a Passport that I've used for 3+ years. It has worked really well for me in the Midwest with ZERO falses. Watch me get a 20+ tomorrow for pushing my luck and bragging about it.
BTW, NEVER speed in city limits. As one who has friends and family in law enforcement, you tend to get a lot more slack cut to you on the open road. If you get nailed, 'fess up if you were doing the deed.

Hey jmhowieii,
I got an 8" StealthCord and installed it yesterday. I noticed a pecululiar thing. When I shift into "R", reverse, the power goes off to the rear view mirror. Does yours do that? I put the power wire into the left side of the connector and the ground wire in the right side of the connector.

the valentine has a little longer range, but the 9500xi is much more friendly in the city. The v1 will be going off all of the time, but with the gps built into the 9500i, it only goes off when theres a real threat. I ended up choosing the 9500i because of that. But if you do a LOT of highway driving, v1 all the way!

the wire on the left as you look at the back of the mirror is a brown wire that is the power and the middle wire is black which is the ground. The wire on the right is for the back up circuit which is why your mirror goes off. do not use the wire on the right. I installed mine this way and it works perfect. Got the wiring diagram from an acura tech.

Hi all! This is my first post! Just pulled the trigger last weekend on a 2010 TL 6MT and am scheduled to pick her up when I get home from traveling a week from today. I will post in the main thread then...But for now, have any of you seen or own the new Redline detector from Escort? Looks like it may be a hyper sensitive version without the GPS?
