Upgrade Navi/Audio System from 2009 to 2012 Stock?
Is it possible to upgrade the System/Software running in my 2009 TL Tech with one from 2012? I'm talking about the system running HFL, Navi, iPod Controls, Voice Search, et cetera. I'm curious if it's possible. For example, the Audio search is frustrating not being able to sort songs/artists across the top by letter, not just alphabetically from A-Z. Also interested in the iPod Voice Search capabilities that came in my wife's 2012 Pilot, enabling the same sort of voice search commands that are native to the iPhone.
Any ideas? Is the only way to get those capabilities going to have be getting an Aftermarket upgrade or a new vehicle?

Anything is possible with software, but I don't think anyone knows how to do this. It would be fun to reverse-engineer how the software works and add in new features. I'd do it if I had a spare car that wasn't under warranty. You can probably do things in a much more elegant way than the current crop of crude aftermarket products.

I'd be very surprised if there isn't a way to do this, however, it requires a copy of the software installer or an image of the software to deploy, and the knowledge of how to access the system and tell it to upgrade/re-install. I've resisted the urge to crack the dashboard open and see what all is on that hard drive. I would suspect figuring such things out would start with someone doing just that - assuming of course that all the software is on the hard drive and not in flash memory somewhere.

well i have 90 GB of music on my ipod, i have to scroll through hundreds of songs before i get where i want to be and drive. An alphabetical list from A-Z like most aftermarket stereos have is a must.
The navi is setup backwards. you should put the number address first then street name and then city or all etc... they should have contracted garmin on this.

It's all window dressing. The phone has a fantastic GUI for the music player, the car, meh, not so much. I just use the bluetooth and the skip buttons, and couldn't be happier. Don't care what song info displays on the nav screen - it's a nav screen.

I can't get past the horrible ipod interface on my 2010 TL. It could be upgraded, but they choose not to spend the money. To require you to wear on the knob to get to the end of your music collection is just ridiculous. I have bought 4 TL's for myself and my wife collectively, and I will seriously consider a different car because of this.
Other car manufacturers, particularly Ford, are putting a lot of serious effort into their technology. Acura chooses to rest on their reputation.

Sadly it could be done via a simple software update but would they ever bother? Hell no... Even their map updates suck as well but then thats not Acura...
